Greetings, fellow DnD citizens. We’re back at it for another week of work, but let’s kick things off here at 3DRPG with some delightful townsfolk who deserve a spot on your bustlin’ city streets!

If someone said, “Hey, the only 3D Prints you can ever do again are townsfolk,” we would nod and ask for all their STLs. We love our everyday, ordinary “Average Joes” that much. Today, we’ve got three new fun sculpts from three great creators. Let’s get to it!

First up is this honorable Monk by Fat Dragon Games. He’s from their fab Villager series – Set 2 to be exact. Honestly, it’s a low-down, dirty shame that Fat Dragon Games doesn’t do more miniatures as their STLs are stuffed with detail, while 3D printing is great in FDM or resin. Definitely check out their Miniatures website page and see if any tickles your fancy.

One of our old work pals painted our misunderstood Monk, and we’re always in awe of his shading effects. Sadly, he moved on to greener pastures (and also had a kiddo), so we’re not expecting his brush to hit a TTRPG 3D print anytime soon, but boy howdy, he did amazing work. We love this one!

Next, we tap into one of our favorite sets by Cast n Play – Viking Folk. You’re crazy not to own every last one of these hardworkin’ settlers! They 3D print like a dream, with so many great poses. We loved this one because we tend to do a lot of farming encounters, and adding this little lady is a perfect fit.

Resident painter Kimmy grabbed a paintbrush and delivered a charming townsfolk miniature for our game table. We love her choice of blue for the dress and the gold edging that ties it all together. Make no mistake, though, this young farmer won’t take any guff and has a right hook waiting for ya if you mess with her pristine fields.

Lastly, we look to an NPC juggernaut, EC3D Designs, and an annebriated Dwarf who might have had one too many. Creator Evan has done two Kickstarters here, and this gem is from Everyday Folk II. Clearly, his clan was partying hard in the local tavern, as this particular set has plenty of rousing Dwarves for you to add to your local pub.

Kimmy Utah painted this tankard Dwarf who is just leaning for comfort’s sake. She kept the color choices simple, as that’s just the kinda life this off-the-clock adventurer likes to lead. No need to rush anything except for that next glass of ale, right?!

So there you have it – three more simple townsfolk with plenty of unique stories to tell. Maybe one is a mole. Maybe another has some concrete intel on where your next villain is hiding. And maybe yet another is a treasure trove of information once you get a few pints of ale in him. The DnD encounter possibilities are endless.

Until next time.

With the majority of Acquisitions Incorporated’s Tresendar Manor Dungeon Crawl prep nearly behind us, DM Ben has the unenviable task of transitioning to the 5e module’s next chapter while still balancing all the self-injected homebrew content. Let’s see where the story is taking us next!

First, though, let’s set the scene after the players emerge victorious from their latest dungeon crawl and find daylight once again. They’re about to meet a very unexpected cleanup crew and get some new plot details. There could even be a second Bastion in it for them!

Omin Dran is certainly no fool…quite the contrary, he is a brilliant businessman. Dran Enterprises keeps a close watch over its Acquisitions Incorporated franchises throughout the Realm. As soon as one fails, he has a Sweeper Team at the ready to pounce in and perform a hostile takeover of its assets (while expanding its operations).

And that’s just how our completed crawl picks up as his microefficient cleanup crew descends on Tresendar Manor. We needed a group of workers to represent these unexpected guests, and good ol’ Fat Dragon Games came to the rescue.

DM Ben went with three NPCs here (vs the pre-written original two encounter characters) because he wants one of them to stay back and offer to serve as the party’s Estate Executor for this second Bastion opportunity.

The module also originally went with Hobgoblins, but we had some cool 3D prints that fit the bill and went the human route. Fat Dragon Games has numerous townsfolk sets, and for these mini picks, Villagers 3 had just what we needed for two of our three choices.

So, then for that third miniature, we tapped our EC3D Designs library and pulled this marvelous lamp lighter mini from their Everyday Folk I Kickstarter. We like the vibe this DnD 3D Print is putting down, and he seems like a worker dude sent to clear the rubble and mop up the carnage.

Resident Painter Kimmy Utah was our lead colorist here (cause, ya know – tiny eyeballs), and we adore her work on these commoners. Great details in all these STLs really come to light, and some of those NPC personalities are already shining through in the final paint schemes.

Here’s how we’re going to assign these out. These first two TTRPG minis are perfect encounter bit players in that they’ll serve a brief purpose here and then pop away until the next time Omin Dran calls upon their hazmat skills.

Now, the module suggests recently rescued Gildha Duhn as the Bastion’s majordomo, but DM Ben doesn’t think his game group will trust her. Nevertheless, they might still take her on as a new employee, which is more than fine. Either way, we also like her coming back in future story arcs.

Now, this remaining mini is very memorable to us, and we like it as a recurring check-in throughout the campaign. This guy is oozing with personality. He’ll approach the group and identify himself as “Rucksack Ron” (an homage to Trading Places) and explain Omin sent him to mop up the now fallen Fellowship of the Golden Mongoose franchise.

Much to the group’s surprise, Rucksack Ron will explain that they have new documents to sign inside their Documancy Satchel. If the group prefers, Omin will offer them a second Bastion, but this time, it will be a prove-yourself-lease as opposed to the original home deed and inaugural Bastion they already own free and clear. He’ll spin as their own safe house and a try-before-you-buy opportunity for both sides.

He will explain that his services are provided free of charge by Acquisitions Incorporated and that if accepted, he will be the temporary executor of this estate. He will follow their orders to the letter as long as they’re all above board. He will periodically report back to Omin and inform them of your latest events and business doings.

Until next time!

Today, we’re featuring some marvelous FDM-printed scatter terrain and adding it to our next featured D&D gameboard, while showcasing a talented 3D-print creator who doesn’t receive nearly enough recognition.

We’re a bit puzzled as to why 3DRPG hasn’t done more DnD posts on all their great 3D-print content, especially for all the FDM enthusiasts out there. We’ve done a few spotlights, but honestly, not nearly enough. Let’s fix that.

We’ve prepped four marvelous fountains from their Realm of the Goblin King Kickstarter. You can either do a late pledge or pick this specific scatter terrain pack over at DriveThruRPG as a Crypt Classics set.

For context, we’re currently prepping the mini-dungeon below Tresendar Manor inside the free D&D Beyond Acquisitions Incorporated module. This mysterious underground hideout features a total of 12 rooms, and the party is tasked with clearing it out and obtaining answers to who sacked The Fellowship of the Golden Mongoose AI Franchise.

We already took care of the initial above-ground encounter, but we think it will be fun to build this map out together over the next few weeks. Hopefully, we’ll inspire fellow Dungeon Masters and give you some nifty new STL ideas.

So, let’s kick it off with the first room: The Cellar. The main scatter terrain feature of this encounter is a cistern located at the opposite end of the room. To maintain our sanity, we never take a module’s description at face value. Besides, everything is open to interpretation, right?! Always do what you can, given the time and resources available between game sessions.

DM Ben reads it as, “We need a terrain piece that can hold water.” So, we check our ever-growing library to see what we already have, and lo and behold, we already featured the Fat Dragon Games Fountains back in 2023, but we never had a need to paint them until now. Wonderful start.

Once again, we asked DM Ben to color these beauties, as we needed to get them into our game sooner rather than later. Necessary clarification: We never claim to be a professional paint website. We follow the Arm’s Length Rule and want to get our joyous 3D prints into our ongoing D&D games as soon as possible.

Additionally, we believe our final pieces are visually appealing (e.g., “good enough”) and designed to cater to the average painter, giving them the confidence to reduce their piles of shame. We watch endless YouTube videos and continually strive to learn and improve our brush skills.

With that said, here are our fountains in all their colorful glory. We’re big into batch painting here at 3DRPG, simply because there never seem to be enough hours in the hobby day. We only need one of these for our cellar, but now we have four options to choose from in the future. #love

A brilliant design feature by Fat Dragon Games for these Crypt Fountains is the incredibly handy water inserts. Modularity always gets us right in the heartstrings. These sit on the top of a fountain’s base, so you can change them up based on the TTRPG scenario.

We did a blood one and an acid one for starters, but we plan to print and paint several more, so they’re always at the ready.

Let’s briefly review the paint colors used so you can try them out or refine our suggestions.

Prime Flat Black.

Apply Slapchop base.

Stone: ASP Gravelord Grey (which sings on Slapchop)

Water Base: ASP Tidal Wave.

Stone Decor Base: FAN Ancient Stone.

Stone Decor Edging: FAN Tomb King.

Skeleton Base: Citadel Contrast Skeleton Horde.

Skeleton Edging: Citadel Palid Witch Flesh.

Blood Insert: ASP Blood Red.

Acid Insert: FAN Electric Lime + FAN Disgusting Slime Effect.

We’re primarily an Army Painter shop, along with several Citadel Contrast paints. So, ASP stands for Army Painter Speedpaint, and FAN stands for Army Painter Fanatic paints.

For the water effect itself, we use AK’s Still Water Effect. We’re not the greatest at properly utilizing this material, mainly because the instructions require us to pour such a small amount for each layer — a painfully restrictive 3mm limit. And then we have to let each layer dry for 24 hours – ugh. Still, it’s our fav water effect product out there, so we just do our best.

You can see a little pooling and cracking in our super-zoomed-in picture here. That’s because these fountains are relatively deep, and so you have to be careful in your initial pour. Still, at Arm’s Length, these fountains just sing, baby!

For our Cellar, we opted for the Art Deco design version, as it gives the fountain a sense of innocence and peace. We want the players to trust the water fountain before them (wink, wink).

Now, we’ve got our focal point scatter terrain piece for the first room, and we’re off to the races! Next, we’ll build out room 2: Storage.

Until next time!

Two things we can’t get enough of in D&D right now – everything mushrooms and anything turtles! Why? No real idea but we’re always hunting for those perfect files and printing them at an alarming rate. Let’s take a look at a few recently completed shrooms today!

Fat Dragon Games is a staple in our 3D printing realm. Not only do they release great sets but Tom Tullis also goes out of his way to continuously share a lot of advice for new hobby enthusiasts. The guy just truly cares about our RPG printing community.

3DRPG has printed mushroom portals, mushroom houses, mushroom scatter terrain, and of course, Mushroom Folk! These lil’ fellas are just adorbs and can be painted in so many playful color schemes.

We also tell our resident painter, Kimmy Utah, to paint each fig a little differently so that it’s obvious which monster is which on the game board. You can have a lot of fun with their bases too by going with a down-and-dirty dirt theme or grab some moss/tufts flock!

There are plenty of mushroom monster blocks out there. For example, you can use the Violet Fungus if the party is traversing through a creepy forest. However, our go-to stat block is the Myconid from Kassoon’s website. All the details are in WotC’s official D&D 5e Monster Manual too.

Also, be sure to check out the Ultimate DND 5E Mushroom Monster Guide by Goblin XP – it’s a fun, DM-inspiring read!
