We’ve really taken a terrain approach of less is not more, and a significant number of starting desert terrain options is imperative to ensure we don’t stifle DM Ben’s gameboard creativity. Hence, we continue to target 3D prints that can be used in a variety of scenarios and have a long track life.

Tomb entrances, in particular, are quite important, as there will be numerous mysterious resting places to explore (rather than one huge underground lair). Pharaohs not only had a place for their royal family, but there were smaller pyramids for their closest advisors, spiritual leaders, and even their builders. So today’s featured prints will be quite useful.

Let’s start with this TTRPG ruins scatter terrain piece by Loot Studios. This mysterious stack of stonecold bricks is from their amazing Buried Tomb set (one of our favs). We love all the tiny details here, including the hieroglyphs, torches, spider webs, and sandy base.

DM Ben messed around with this stack of stones and really went back and forth on which of our sandy paint schemes to use. He landed on the lighter interior-tile version, as he felt this DnD STL felt more like transition terrain than any sort of grand entrance. He used ASP Holy White for the cobwebs and then decided to put down a little sand flock to give it more of that ruins look.

From that very same Buried Tomb set, we also 3D-printed this hieroglyphic tablet. This is another subtle yet very useful scatter terrain piece because, of course, there are going to be several stone tablets in our tombs! Loot Studios did more of those charming spider webs and gave this one a nice sandy-style base, too!

DM Ben painted this one at lightning speed! He’s really grown attached to that Green Stuff World Tropical Turquoise color. We gave that bottle a go while making those tomb torches earlier, and that soothing teal has really stuck with us. He was also keen to make this one look rather weathered since some spiders are hanging out on it.

Lastly, we’re sneaking one more 3D print here, but this one was a little too generic to find the source. Still, we like including this one in our Egyptian pile because it bucks the traditional desert sand statue trend. DM Ben loves to drop something in an encounter that doesn’t normally belong. Like, who is this mystery woman, and why was she idolized like so? Juicy questions to say the least.

Whether some mighty monster bones are on display in a fancy Waterdeep museum or in a wealthy hunter’s private home, we all love a good for-the-thrill-of-a-hunt story, right?! DM Ben loves this one-shot encounter angle because our two pieces of featured scatter terrain give him a slew of storytelling options. Just remember – look but don’t touch.

Loot Studios is always thinking of fun, unique scatter terrain, and god bless ’em, because we instantly gravitate to these kinds of ingenious DnD 3D Prints. We happily sliced up their Jawbone and Skull Displays from the aptly-named Cursed Collector’s Curiosities set.

These TTRPG 3D prints are nice and bulky for painting. The Jaw Display is a 1×2 d20 in size, and the Skull Display takes up a 2×2 d20 set of squares. DM Ben rushed into action to color these up this past weekend, and he kept it simple.

• Prime Flat Black | Slapchop Base.
• Wood Tables: ASP Ruddy Fur.
• Wood: GSW Skeleton Brown.
• Skull/Bones: Same skeleton paint scheme used previously.
• Teeth: Army Painter Blanche Ivory White + FAN Soft Tone Wash.
• Nails: ASP Echanted Steel.

DM Ben always felt that ASP Ruddy Fur was a great wood color choice for fancier timber. That deep red reminds him of cherry wood (which we loved in an earlier Potion Cart). It’s the kind of wood you always see in those grand, old historic homes, ya know?

These were literally finished late last night, so they’re not exactly perfect. DM Ben needs to circle back and touch up the wood tabletops and add a little color to the two skulls underneath the table. Also, our Skull Display lost one of its legs during support removal, so it’s a smidge uneven. However, that quirk amuses DM Ben…like the skull is so big and heavy that it broke the table.

Now, we just need to pick out a couple of nasty, bigger beasts that the players can fight that resemble a few of these mighty bones. The creatures definitely need to be at least 3×3 d20 squares in size. This could be a nice way to bring a few dinosaur-style miniatures into the game, so we’ll keep brainstorming some ideas as we build out this future one-shot DnD encounter.

DM Ben is a sucker when it comes to basically all-things DnD, but two that always tug on his dungeon master heartstrings are unique light sources and elementals. Thankfully, we’ve got two talented creators who made today’s featured STLs a no-brainer to showcase.

Let’s start off with this detailed-soaked Griffin Brazier by Loot Studios. This unique light source runs hot, surrounded by intricate stone carvings. This imposing TTRPG model is from their fun Loxwort Academy set.

We really wanted some standalone light sources that we could drop into a variety of terrain: 3D-printed or off the shelf. This was especially important for the huge amount of Dwarven Forge Dungeons Re-forged we finally got in the mail the other week. We’re slowly unpacking and cataloging everything before we start to feature future dungeon gameboards.

DM Ben took paintbrush to hand for these, as he was itching to try out a new three-step stone scheme by the talented crew over at Tiny Furniture. They posted a quick, super helpful how-to Reel on Instagram. We haven’t had much success with our rock schemes since Citadel re-released all their paint lines many moons ago, so we keep trying new variations, hoping one will finally stick.

• Prime Flat Black (with no Slapchop step).
• Layer 1: drybrush Craftsmart Dark Grey.
• Layer 2: lighter drybrush of GSW Moonstone Grey (lighter grey).
• Layer 3: even lighter drybrush of FAN Matt White.
• Torch P1: Layer on FAN Rough Iron for the torch itself.
• Torch P2: Layer on ASP Broadsword Silver for claps.
• Torch P3: Edging with FAN Mithril Silver.
• Light: ASP Zealot Yellow.

DM Ben realized he wasn’t consistently selecting the best lighter grey in step 2, so he did some thorough research and identified GSW Moonstone Grey as the clear winner. That proper paintpot pick made all the difference.

Our second pick today shifts from handy scatter terrain to small monsters packing a big punch. For that choice, we leaned on Printed Encounter and their adorbs version of a small Air Elemental. This angry lil’ dude is a free download, and trust us when we say, you should peruse all their freebies because their pieces are super sturdy and no-brainers to add to your library.

DM Ben also colored up this mighty might, but it wasn’t as easy as it appears, as sometimes an STL that seems like a snap can take the longest to get just right. He did several Google searches and watched numerous videos until his test prints finally delivered a piece he was happy with.

• Base Layer: Citadel Contrast Aethermatic Blue.
• Drybrush with FAN Wolf Gray.
• Drybrush with Citadel White Scar.

The only thing we’re going to circle back on is coloring that little diamond divot between his eyes (probably red) and then slightly darkening his eyes and face so they show up a bit better. We also need to put him on a clear base for stability.

We also had an ulterior motive to color our new DnD air elemental 3D print. Cast n Play’s Terrain Essentials released the Faraway Lands Cloud City Terrain Set last year, and although we’ve 3D-printed all the STLs, we haven’t painted anything yet. The reason is that we wanted a tried-and-true cloud paint scheme in hand first. With our color confidence in fine shape, we’re excited to paint these airships here in 2026!

DM Ben recently ran an on-the-fly town transaction in which his players had to pick out a cart and a few animal mounts before heading out to find the Night Hag deep in The High Forest. The group had a blast picking from all the different animal options from our 3D printer. So much so, we felt we needed to create a new NPC that offered such valuable services whenever the need to hire a pet pal arose.

We’re featuring two adorbs 3D prints today for your store-browsing pleasure, and we’re starting with this Skunk Familiar by Crippled God Foundry. We don’t remember exactly how we came across this stinky STL, but we have a hunch it was a limited-time freebie.

Their talented team actually has several different animal familiars in their MMF store, including a cute Hedgehog and a dependable Goose. We’ll certainly show a few more of them off as we expand on this new NPC shop in future posts.

Resident painter Kimmy Utah grabbed a paintbrush for our misunderstood scented friend, and we just love the results. The spikey collar and trusty leather satchel are so on point. Certainly, this vital message is bound to reach its destination because who in their right mind wants to get near this one?!

Like most animals, we sliced this one a bit larger than the original source file. Creators love to make animals so darn small sometimes, and hey, we get the realism, but painting those sorta 3D-printed micro miniatures is no fun.

Our second loyal animal companion comes courtesy of Loot Studios. This eager Corgi Scout is from their wild Eye of The Watcher set. This is a really creative sculpt, and we think it naturally pulls at the heartstrings of any dog lovers at your game table. You’re going to pick this one, right?!

Kimmy Utah also colored this helpful hound, and he just looks so official and dependable. Doesn’t he just bark, “reporting for duty, sir?!” The saddle expands the usefulness of this TTRPG 3D print by also allowing you to also use it as a mount for a smaller-sized character.

DM Ben isn’t quite sure what the stats will be on our newest comfort critters, but DM Ben wants to build on this series. First, he loves incorporating diverse pro-party creatures into our campaign. Second, we always enjoy creating new NPCs. So, we’ll follow this one up with more best-friend beasts, a quirky shop owner, and even some supporting scatter terrain to really sell the overall DnD scene.
