Greetings, fellow aquatic monster hunters! Here we go again, with another week of 3D print inspirations to help answer that ongoing question: “What should I print today?” Never fret, because that’s what 3DRPGPrints.com is here for, so grab a bib and some claw crackers and let’s get to reading!

Odd monster combinations are one of today’s creators’ go-to STL design moves. He loves to take two different creatures and merge them into a whole new monstrosity. That’s something we can absolutely get behind as DnD monster enthusiasts. This time, he decided to merge a squid with a lobster, and the results are pure magic!

We’re talking about the one and only mighty Schlossbauer and his fantastic library of free TTRPG 3D Prints. He calls this one “Piscodeamon,” and we’re completely into it! We’ve slowly been building up our pirate collection, and we want plenty of fellow aquatic creatures to be part of that mix when it comes time for the players to get their sea legs.

DM Ben decided to get out of his comfort zone and try to color this TTRPG miniature. He got a bit flummoxed by a small part of this RPG STL, but some minor future adjustments shouldn’t be a prob. Let’s start by looking at his original paint steps.

Prime Flat Black | Slapchop Base.

Lobster Shell (legs/claws): ASP Nuclear Sunrise | ASP Grim Black dabs.

Tentacles: ASP Hive Dweller Purple + FAN Purple Tone Wash.

Head: FAN Barbarian Flesh + FAN Soft Tone Wash.

Feet: ASP Malignant Green + FAN Green Tone Wash.

Rest of Body: Citadel Contrast Snakebite Leather.

Eyes & Nose (for now): ASP Blood Red.

White Drybrush: Very light on Purple/Dark Brown.

Wet Look: GSW Gloss Varnish (for the wet look).

Oddly enough, DM Ben struggled with the simplest part – the eyes and nose. He originally had ’em black, second-guessed himself (because it blended too much with the darker purple), and then switched to Red. Not great. Hence, we’re going to put the eyes back to black, then do the nose in a more off-white bone color. These minor tweaks should bring it all together. We’ll probably also put a black wash on its head so that it’s a bit dirtier.

One of our favorite parts of this 3D print is the swooping tail, which ties together so well with its squidly head and hard-shelled claws and legs. Even funnier, we didn’t even realize that the Piscodeamon was a real monster in Pathfinder…but we also found a DnD lore version. Not a shock, since we don’t play many water campaigns.

Per Roll20, it turns out these Aquatic daemons roam the lower planes, sowing misery and Blight. They delight in drawn-out deaths, poisoning creatures, or dismembering victims to watch them slowly bleed out. On their home plane of Abaddon, these creatures run their units with an excess of cruelty and violence. Instead of preying on the weak, piscodaemons prefer to target strong, well-armored warriors, knowing the pain of their weakening Poison is so lethal.

There are several DnD 5e stat block versions out there, and one goes as high as AC 24 and 137 HP. In the end, we settled on this 5eSRD.com version: AC 20, HP 127, Claw att x2 +10/2d6+6, Tentacle att: +10/1d10+6 + 1d10 poison. Spells: Dispel Magic/Fly/Stinking Cloud. Magic Resistance. Improved Critical. Even Teleport. Damage Resistances are many. Just a freight train of a monster.

With our current party of six players, only level six, it’s not like DM Ben would throw a squad of these at the group. Still, he could be an encounter boss with a bunch of lesser aquatic creatures at his slimy side. Hence, he’ll introduce one early on, then go with a group of them later, when the players are at higher levels and can better handle a higher Challenge Rating. Either way, this intense Piscodeamon is going to make its presence in our game known!

Until next time!

Greetings, fellow firework fanatics! Today’s weekly Train Tuesday installment introduces a brand-new Hovertrain tactic that is all the rage in Waterdeep these days. Let’s see what all the noise and smoke are about and get the skinny.

We’ve mentioned what a brilliant, innovative dungeon master Brennan Lee Mulligan from Dimension 20 is and how his creative team made all these neat add-ons for their airship battles in their sensational series Cloudward, Ho. Seriously, this series is beyond words, so be sure to pick up a month’s subscription on Dropout.tv because you’ll burn through the episodes in no time.

Anyways, their prop team put together all these amazing add-ons that the adventurers could buy, like special weaponry, energy boosts, and armor. That level of creativity was so inspiring that we really want to make some of those same cool gizmos and gadgets for our Hovertrains. We already 3D-printed a harpoon gun, but we’re thirsty for much more!

Thankfully, our newest Living Smart Bomb is a free download, courtesy of the mighty Schlossbauer. We somehow missed this STL at first, but then the fab rendering leaped out at us as we were trying to think of new attachments for our Hovertrains’ defenses or as attack weapons for the raiders storming them.

These ticking boomers are very paint-friendly, so DM Ben was happy to give them a go…especially because he had come up with a really good cannonball color scheme earlier.

Prime Flat Black | Slapchop Base.

Base P1: Layer on FAN Gun Metal.

Base P2: Spotty drybrush of black.

Base P3: Random stippling of FAN Gun Metal.

Face: ASP Slaughter Red + FAN Red Wash.

Fuse: FAN Oak Brown.

Fuse Rim: Citadel Stormhost Silver.

Flame P1: Layer on ASP Zealot Yellow

Flame P2: GSW Gloss Varnish

Fame P3: ASP Blood Red edging.

Eyes: WAR Elven Armour.

All: FAN Soft Wash.

This was a batch paint project, so DM Ben cranked these out fast. The darker red face felt very superhero cartoonish, which is the precise vibe we’re shooting for here.

He also loves it when he always learn a new paint step or trick. Army Painter Zealot Yellow is a super color, but that same paint with a gloss varnish over it, then edged with some ASP Blood Red, is literally fire. We’re certainly going to employ this combination on all things flame in the future.

You probably noticed in all our pics here that we also made these DnD Living Bombs in different miniature sizes. We plan to treat these TTRPG as mini fireballs with feet, so the smaller ones would just get half the stats of the larger minis. Once their fuse is lit, the owner assigns a target area to it and yells the simple command, “Go get ’em!”

The 5th Edition SRD has the perfect DnD 5e stat here, but feel free to scale these based on party level and number of Living Bombs you put on the gameboard: AC 17, HP 51, Speed 40 ft, CR 3, Damage: 4d6 fire and 4d6 piercing in a 20-foot radius (Dex DC 14 for half). DM Ben just isn’t sold on the whole heat token mechanic and just might rely on hit points to detonate early. Otherwise, the bomb simply accelerates its fuse when it reaches the desired target. He also won’t give them the Grab mechanic, as they have no arms.

Until next time!

Greetings, fellow monster hunters! Another work week is upon us, and that leaves just four days before we drop weekend dice again. So, let’s get you a free download to spin up prior to your next game day! You could even get two 3D prints if you have the time and resin.

Deciding which initial Wandering Monster list to attach this week’s baddies to was quite the office debate. We ultimately concluded that mosquitoes are outside dwellers and then come inside to fuel up. Still, you can drop these guys in a swamp, in a wooded forest, in a dark cavern, and even in a damp dungeon. Monster placement flexibility abounds!

Stumbling upon and inadvertently disturbing a monster’s lair is a DnD tale as old as time. That “oh no – what did we just do?” moment when the group suddenly realizes that their curiosity has got the best of them never really gets old. Even better, you can scale up or down this encounter depending on how much craft time you have.

Today’s featured minis come courtesy of the mighty Schlossbauer, who once again gives us another free download to grow our never-ending library of monsters. These pesky Mosquito Larvae give you all the annoying bites you need to set up a wandering monster encounter that gets out of hand in a big hurry.

DM Ben had these primed and ready to roll months ago, but he just couldn’t settle on a paint scheme he was comfortable with. It’s not exactly easy to visualize Mosquito Larvae. Besides, 3DRPG Studios is based in sunny Chandler, AZ, and we’re blessed not to run into these bug biters very often.

Still, our Google search technique for potential paint scheme suggestions has been working so well lately that he just decided to trust their paint step suggestions and slip in a few colors of his own.

Prime Flat Black | Slapchop base.

Body P1: ASP Maggot Skin.

Body P2: Highlight with FAN Brainmatter Beige.

Body P3: FAN Military Shade Wash.

Protrusions: ASP Pallid Bone.

Head: ASP Gravelord Grey.

Face: ASP Holy White.

Eyes: ASP Blood Red.

All: GSW Gloss Varnish (for a wet, hatchling look).

We tend to shy away from using shades of black on our miniatures, but since DM Ben was suffering from some paint paralysis, he decided not to overthink everything. It’s not like someone can hold up a perfect museum portrait of these Mosquito Larvae and cry foul!

Nothing spells success after a completed paint sesh more than when you come up with a new color combo that you know has legs for future applications. And that’s right where we netted out with this buggy green baby. This fun shade of green will be perfect for future creatures – friendly or adversarial. Army Painter has so many amazing washes, and this was the first time we tried that Military Shade, which sings on ASP Maggot Skin.

With regards to our Mosquito Larvae DnD 5e stat block, this was a trickier search because just about everything was positioned as a swarm, and these particular miniatures are well past their tiny stage. The closest we stumbled upon was this Carrier Mosquito by World Anvil. Our Larvae aren’t fully formed, so their flying mechanic just didn’t make sense here.

So, then we found this Giant Mosquito Creature by Pyroka3D. He actually made a really slick STL, and you can download it for free here. He even added some DnD 5e stats (AC 18, HP 63, Att: Proboscis +6/2d6+2, Bash att +6, 1d6+2 for a fully formed creature. So, since these nasty buggers haven’t completed their full transformation, DM Ben will just lower the AC to 14 and hit points to half 33. However, it would be fun to have a few of them turn into full blood suckers during combat!

So, we’ll give this one a go in the coming weeks and see how it comes out. Should be a fun follow-up post!

Greetings, fellow gamers. Hope you had a wonderful weekend of dice drops. We were feverishly working on new DnD miniatures and scatter terrain for y’all as these next couple of weeks are going to be nuts!

We think you’re gonna love today’s miniature spotlight as this mean monster fits into both our Dungeon and Wilderness Trek free tables. Before we get to it, though, here are a few updates so all the longtime 3DRPGers out there are in the know for what lies ahead in this week’s crazy schedule.

This Friday is the annual Game on Expo in Phoenix, AZ, which happens to be a Troll’s stone’s throw from Chandler, where 3DRPG Studios is headquartered. Now, you would think being in the fifth-largest city in the country would mean Arizonians have a slew of slick gaming Cons to go to on a regular basis, but sadly, it can be pretty hit or miss here. Still, we’ve gone to Game On for many years now, so we’re going to try to be optimistic.

So, this means no DnD blog post this Friday while we snuff out some new finds for your DnD collection. Last year was rough, as just about every other booth was filled with coasters, pins, phone cases, and silly 3D-printed toys. We were really surprised at how little Dungeons and Dragons and other TTRPG stuff there was compared to years past. We always seem to find a nifty product or two, though (and featuring in our latest Holiday Gift Guide). Case in point, DM Ben uses his Game Envy Popup Rinse Cup & Magical Sinking Brush Scrubby every weekend!

The next bit of news is we’re feverishly trying to unpack, organzie and re-pack our huge Dwarven Forge Dungeons Reforged Kickstarter. We made the conscious decision in 2025 to go all in with their prepainted dungeons product so that we could focus on an abundance of other 3D-printed miniatures/scatter terrain, our Forgotten Rails Hovertrain setting, and the Beneath the Sands Tomb setting. The pieces are amazing, and we absolutely made the right decision.

Honestly, the trickiest part was finding the right container system to house and keep the staggering amount of pieces organized. We’re looking forward to showcasing all the dungeon sets and our storage system in the coming months.

That leads us to our next challenge for this week: we have Hey, Hey It’s Game Day home session this Saturday! That means we have to have our Wyrmwood Table completely cleared off so we can continue on in The High Forest. Our family game runs very fast, as it’s filled with experienced younger gamers who are just fierce at moving quickly between encounters. Hence, DM Ben has a lot of prep work to do for this weekend. That also means we’re going to forgo this week’s edition of Tomb Thursday and instead do our Game Day post that day.

Even better, our new office mascot, Winnie Lou Who, is turning five months old, and boy oh boy, is she a handful with all that puppy energy. We’re having a handyman team coming this Wednesday to install some dog fences so she can’t get in as much trouble in the backyard. That means DM Ben has to be home to meet the contractors and walk them through the complicated installation. Hence, we won’t be able to post on 3-11. Look at that face, though – Winnie is irresistible…y’all would love her if you got to greet her in person.

Ok, so with all that housekeeping stuff for the week out of the way, let’s get to today’s featured TTRPG 3D print! This amazing STL is called a Shield Spider, and this meany is a free download from the mighty Schlossbauer. Like with many of his sensational creations, you’re going to have a hard time just printing one.

DM Ben decided to give this multi-leg monster miniature a go with some paints. This is not so itsy bitsy fella is really a freak of nature, so it’s not like you can do too much wrong here.

Prime Flat Black | Slapchop Base.

Shell: ASP Rigor Mortis + Citadel Athonian Camoshade Wash.

Legs: ASP Nuclear Sunrise.

Shields: FAN Oak Brown.

Face: ASP Holy White.

Eyes: ASP Blood Red.

We were eager to try that Citadel Athonian Camoshade Wash as we saw it in a YouTube video (to use as moss on stone), but we thought it would look cool on the Shield Spider’s body, too.

For whatever reason, before DM Ben started painting, he didn’t do a Google Image search to see how other TTRPG hobbyists colored this creepy crawly up. No biggie. We’re going to spin up a few more of these guys and give them different, unique looks, like the one in the pic above.

Originally, DM Ben was just freestyling (something he rarely does, btw), so it will be fun to make new versions based on other gamers’ excellent paint schemes. We’ll be sure to circle back and share those with you (along with the DnD 5e stat blocks we plan to utilize).

Until next time!

Greetings, fellow quackers! We have some not-so-cuddly creatures to showcase for you today, and the sculpt leapt out at us the second we saw this one in the designer’s library. Let’s waddle our way to it!

Continually building our free Wandering Monster Wilderness Trek table is always at the back of our minds because traveling to new places is just a core mechanic in our DnD campaign. DM Ben needs to be able to continually pull new options from our table without the stress of making a TTRPG encounter at the last minute.

Some Dungeon Masters just wing it or just draw from an existing module table, which is totally cool, but there’s just something incredibly satisfying about 3D-printing a scenario from scratch to use as a random travel event later in your own game. Sometimes, DM Ben even pulls an encounter from our table because he is dying to play it, or he just wants to liven up a particular game night!

We found some trippy zombie ducks that we think we can use in any number of ways, including:

As new Wandering Monsters.

As a crazy swamp guy’s personal soldier squad.

As a new prize for The Collector’s crazy creature collection.

If everything goes well, DM Ben plans on utilizing all three storylines. First, he’ll tease these fierce feather snappers in a Wandering Monster encounter. Then the party will learn they actually belong to a hermit deep in a swamp who doesn’t take kindly to trespassers. We’ll finish with The Collector wanting one for his personal collection, and it’s up to our adventurers to capture a male and a female.

The magnificent mallard in question comes from the mighty Schlossbauer. He’s dubbed this one a Bog Hunter, and it’s a free download in his amazing library of STLs. He seems to share that same passion for DnD monsters as we do, as we often find ourselves 3D printing out five-ish of each his STLs so we can instill enough chaos into our party’s travel plans.

These back-from-the-dead waterfowl have some nice big eyes, so DM Ben was willing to pick up a brush this past weekend and get to work. He once again asked The Google to recommend some Army Painter & Green Stuff World paint combinations that weren’t too technical for his skill level.

Flat Black Prime | Slapchop Base.

Head: FAN Emerald Forest with black drybrush.

Body: ASP Hardened Leather with FAN Leather Brown drybrush.

Wings: ASP Gravelord Grey with GSW Skull Linen Dip blotted on top.

Beak & Feet: ASP Fire Giant Orange (with black toes).

Tongue: FAN Barbarian Flesh (with Soft Tone wash).

Eyes: John Blanche Fiery Vermillion

Edging: FAN Matt Black randomly in any of the STL’s divots.

Wash: cover the head and body with FAN Green Tone.

Lower Half: GSW Gloss Varnish on the legs and feet (for a little mild wetness effect).

For the base, he used our tried-and-true ASP Tidal Wave technique for a couple of random water spots, with AKI’s Water Gel Effect over the top. For the dirt ground cover, ASP Desolate Brown is a rockstar; optionally, add a light drybrush of ASP Forest Sprite. And then finish that off with a swampy grass tuft.

DM Ben pictures these nasty ankle biters as more of a pack unit, so he’ll probably do five to ten of them in total. These went pretty quickly once he finally stopped overthinking the wing colors. For their stats, we have a lot of geese and ducks in our office complex parking lot, and they’re mean SOBs. Hence, he wanted to translate our disgust for them in the game.

The D&D Wiki gave us a solid Giant Duck 5e stat base: AC 13, HP 30, Att: Beak +5/1d6+3, Claws +5/2d6+3. We’re just going to tweak the AC to 17 because have you ever tried to catch a duck? And then we’re going to add a swarm effect: if three or more ducks are within 10 feet of each other, they get an extra bite attack that round. Also, we also loved this Quack trait we saw from another version: DC 15 Wis save or fear for 1d4 rounds.

Now all that’s left to do is update our free d20 DnD Wilderness Trek Wandering Monster Table! We’re tinkering with the frequency and the methodology for triggering a roll on the table. Two options: (1) Each player rolls a d6, and if one of the table results is a six, then a wandering monster is triggered. (2) The DM rolls a percentile dice, but the specific percentile ranges from 10 to 30%-ish based on the circumstances around their long rest or travel.
