Greetings, fellow worshipers! Tomb Thursday means we’re so darn close to another fab weekend of dice rolling, engaging storytelling, and 3D-print crafting! We think you’re going to love this week’s featured Egyptian-style picks!

Egyptians definitely loved their Gods, and boy howdy, did they worship a bunch of ’em. Our personal fav is Anubis. It’s the ancient Egyptian god of mummification, the afterlife, and the protector of graves. This jackal-headed man is iconic and instantly associated with desert tomb raiding. Thankfully, we’ve got a slick new DnD miniature and a free download so you can get this Lord of the Underworld onto your TTRPG gameboard!

We went to one of our favorite STL watering holes and found this Possessed Pillar miniature by the great mz4250. Even though he did this one up as a statue, we’re going to use it for a squad of Anubis soldiers inside our underground tomb. We just love this guardian-style sculpt and think it fits perfectly into our Egyptian-themed DnD gameboard. And once again, it’s a free download (but consider sending him a tip or subscribing to his Patreon).

DM Ben was happy to give this TTRPG mini a go as we 3D-printed him to fill a 2×2 d20 set of squares (e.g., nice and big). Also, there weren’t any microscopic, hard-to-reach details on this TTRPG model.

Prime Flat White.

Body P1: Layer WAR Matt Black.

Body P2: FAN Uniform Grey drybrush.

Cloth: ASP Holy White + white drybrush.

Head Scarf: Layer GSW Komodo Kaki + Brown Wash + light drybrush again.

A few dead-grass tufts and some light sand flocking and Bob’s your uncle.

Next up, we wanted to put some spooky warning signs outside and/or on the road to the tomb. This Undead Skeleton Sign by MrBigTong was absolutely perfect! You just have to remove its supports with kid gloves because this piece is a bit fragile. We lost a few on the table because we get a little overeager during the de-plating process.

Nothing crazy in terms of painting, with all the usual paint pots in play, including ASP Dark Wood, Citadel Contrast Skeleton Horde, ASP Runic Grey, and ASP Pallid Bone. DM Ben wanted these scatter pieces to be more versatile, so he did a stone base with some sand flock in the event he decides to drop these in a future dungeon crawl. We forgot to scribble a little P3 Menoth White Highlight on the sign portion, but that’s an easy fix.

Lastly, DM Ben is trying to remember to sneak in a subtle scatter terrain piece during each desert Egyptian paint sesh, so he has plenty of options for encounter buildouts. This smaller ladder was easy because we were already using ASP Dark Wood and Pallid Bone on the other pieces. Even better, we could use this scatter in any scenario type.

Until next time.

Greetings, fellow treasure seekers! We’ve got a fun new DnD monster miniature and a couple of handy pieces of Egyptian scatter for your tombs today! Let’s dig in!

We want to open with a quick word of thanks to y’all for this recent three-day hiatus as DM Ben proudly watched his youngest daughter receive her diploma from Northern Arizona University. He had to drive up to Flagstaff over the past weekend and needed a few days to reset after such an emotional day. He also had zero hobby time, so that made new posts earlier this week rather tricky.

Let’s kick things off with a couple of simple, yet important pieces of Egyptian scatter. There aren’t many showstoppers when it comes to these types of desert 3D prints, but when used in combination with awesome miniatures and slick terrain tiles, you can really set the mood around your game table in the best of ways.

Our featured statue comes from Iain Lovecraft’s epic Desert Adventures Kickstarter. Monuments were always the rage back then, so we need to ensure we represent their Gods in our underground tomb.

DM Ben keeps it simple here with our swell sandy paint scheme. We like to scale back our statues and monuments for several reasons, including storage space and room on the game table. You can certainly do some bigger statues and buildings, but that can be such a brew-ha. There’s nothing wrong with scaling your 3D prints back during slicing.

We also did a weathered mummy sarcophagus, but it’s so generic that sourcing this STL would take forever. If we had to guess, this one is probably from our pals at Aether Studios (the official terrain tile provider of this sandy blog series).

Next up, we have this frickin’ insane Subek miniature by the magnificent mz4250. We shudder to say where we would be without this epic creator in our 3D printing community. All his STLs are free (but we encourage you to check out his $5 monthly Patreon). We love the pose and details on this DnD mini. Just look at these snappers, will ya?!

Resident painter Kimmy Utah is so darn slammed these days (especially as a younger mom) that the rest of the team has been doing more of the painting lately. We just manage our expectations and continuously remind ourselves of the Arm’s Length Rule to get through the stress of it all. This is probably one of the smallest miniatures DM Ben has ever painted, but one must answer the call!

Armed with a Google Army Painter step-by-step suggestion, DM Ben took a deep breath and grabbed a brush:

Prime Flat White.

Skin: WAR Scaly Hide + Green Wash + Strong Tone Wash.

Tongue/Inside Mouth: FAN Moonstone Skin.

Teeth/Nails: White + Strong Tone Wash.

Arm Bracers: ASP Hardened Leather.

Belt: ASP Hardened Leather & FAN Bright Gold.

Clothes: WAR Voidshield Blue + Blue Wash.

Head Cloth: GSW Komodo Khaki + Brown Wash.

Feet Tips: FAN Uniform Grey.

We were really surprised by how great Army Painter’s Scaly Hide is as a reptile color for that creature type. You can also darken that scaly skin a bit more by going over it with a light drybrush of black. Also, be sure to do some solid flocking on that base to help immerse players in their surroundings.

Let’s briefly talk DnD 5e stat blocks here. We found this “Aspect of Sobek” premade stat block on d20Radio.com and thought it was excellent. Depending on where your characters are level-wise and the number of guards on the board, you just might want to knock the HP back from 105 to more like 52-ish. You can also use this Google Search phrase (“dnd 5e sobek soldier stat block”) and get another nice alternative.

We also wanted to take a moment to congratulate all the 2026 graduates and their families on such an amazing achievement. Nothing about college is easy these days, so we consider a diploma to be the mightiest of feats. We’re proud of each and every one of you! Care to take a guess on which daughter is DM Ben’s in the pic above?

Until next time!

Greetings, fellow sand diggers! We’ve got a fun spin on a free 3D-print download and a slick piece of scatter terrain to complete the tomb vibe. Let’s get our hands dirty!

Today’s DnD miniatures are a bit on the smaller side, so DM Ben was pretty apprehensive about painting them. However, these are the core worker bees of the Tomb minis hierarchy, so they’re showing a bit more skin, which puts his nerves at a little more ease. Still, this was a lip-biter of a paint project if he ever saw one.

Anyone who watches all those old epic Egyptian movies like The Ten Commandments (1956), Cleopatra (1963), and The Mummy (1999) will remember these classic dudes wearing only a simple white cloth. Not a lot of air conditioning in those tombs, right? Some of ’em were called Plebs, and the body-prep mortuary priests were called “servants of the ka.” So, it’s only natural to represent these poor guys in our Beneath the Sands series.

Besides all those amazing movies, our inspiration comes from a random scroll of mz4250’s absolutely insane Patreon library. Like, you could scroll for days on end and easily find some fresh STLs to 3D print for your DnD game. That’s how we found this amazing Corpse Thief, which was yet another free download. This desert-style STL has some super-creepy features, but we think he’s perfect for filling our Tomb servant role.

DM Ben employed some batch-painting tactics here because we’ll certainly need a mitful of these meager dudes to cover a host of different DnD encounters. The miniature is on the smaller side, but there’s plenty of skin and just a few simple design elements, so he thought he would give ’em the ol’ college try.

Prime Flat White.

Skin P1: Layer on FAN Barbarian Flesh.

Skin P2: FAN Soft Tone Wash.

Necklace: GSW Tropical Turquoise.

Cloth: ASP Holy White.

Nails: WAR Matt White.

We decided to go with a grey-ish Holy White Speedpaint rather than a bright white because these dudes are working in some pretty dirty environments. Still, DM Ben might go back and do a little white edging on the cloth so it’s a little lighter overall. He also went a little too crazy on the long white fingernails, so he’ll probably tone down that effect a little more.

We took some wisdom from Miniature Hobbyist and decided not to paint the eyes and Joker-style mouth because it could do more harm than good. They look solid just the way they are, and those facial features are still easily visible.

Longtime 3DRPGers probably remember our no-waste-whenever-possible motto. If a 3D print comes out poorly or snaps a limb while removing the supports, we’ll still save that print. Then we’ll initially test our planned color scheme on that one first, just in case our picks aren’t what we’re hoping for.

Today’s miniature (on the left) is a great example, as we inadvertently snapped off this poor guy’s arm and initially tried ASP Crusader Skin, followed by a WAR Flesh Wash. That color attempt came off way too dark and dingy. We went back over it by dabbing it with the lighter FAN Barbarian Flesh, and that is starting to grow on us. So, our one-armed guy makes the final cut, and we’ll just say there was a fallen stone incident.

Next, we have this sa-weet Pontiff’s Lectern by JLuna 3D. This was another free download (although tips are encouraged). The artist rendering immediately caught our eye, but we were wondering how this one might look post-print. We love it!

DM Ben was super comfortable painting this one as he’s really gotten the hang of stone lately. Let’s review the simple steps he used here.

Prime Flat Black | Slapchop.

Stone Base: ASP Gravelord Grey.

Stone Middle: ASP Runic Grey + White Drybrush.

Book: ASP Pallid Bone + White Drybrush.

Candle: WAR Mummy Robes + ASP Zealot Yellow.

Frickin’ fantastic, right?! You can almost hear a Servant of the Ka reading from the good book as they prepare the next body for burial.

Until next time!

Greetings, fellow Sandmen and Sandwomen! Let’s see what came off our 3D printers and paint brushes this past week!

Today, we’re going to share a couple of miniatures and one piece of sandy scatter that are now official role players in our beloved Beneath the Sands ongoing DnD blog series. DM Ben is mustering up a lot of courage lately and doing his novice best to color some of our 3D prints, as Resident Painter Kimmy Utah has been absolutely slammed with almost a 12-month backlog in front of her.

So, it’s important to remind readers that 3DRPGPrints.com by no means represents itself as a professional, award-winning painting blog. We’re just a small group of passionate guys and gals who want to share our RPG stuff with fellow gamers and help grow the DnD community. We fully believe in the Arm’s Length Rule and in getting TTRPG 3D prints to the game table ASAP so we can enjoy them! Making stuff just to sit in display cases is a bit boring to us.

With that disclaimer out of the way, let’s see what new miniatures and scatter might deserve a slot in your own ongoing DnD campaigns. We’ll start with the mighty Schlossbauer and his free Egyptian-style priest download. This mini is officially labeled an Agahim, but all we see is a desert badass.

This is the smallest DnD miniature ol’ DM Ben has ever tried to hand-paint! Later, he said it felt like he was defusing a ticking package. We’re ultra-zoomed in on this photo, so the final output is deceiving here. He got nothing but highfives from the office crew, simply because he didn’t let fear get the best of him.

Surprisingly, we had very few Priest miniatures for Beneath the Sands, and these dudes would be all over a sunken tomb. A bigshot Pharaoh always has an abundance of faith fellas at his side (probably because of all the bad stuff they’ve done as rulers).

Prime Flat White.

Veil & Gloves: GSW Komodo Khaki + Soft Tone Wash.

Veil Jewel: GSW Tropical Turquoise.

Vestments P1: FAN Greedy Gold + Soft Tone Wash.

Vestments P2: ASP Broadsword Silver + FAN Shining Silver Drybrush.

Main Robes P1: Layer WAR Deep Blue + Blue Wash.

Main Robes P2: Drybrush FAN Crystal Blue.

Sash: FAN Pure Red + Red Wash.

Skin: FAN Barbarian Flesh + Flesh Wash.

Shoes: ASP Harden Leather.

We plan to make four more of these guys (shhh – don’t tell DM Ben), and tweaking that Veil Jewel color will be a nice differential. A thin, sandy base also turned out swell here.

Next up is this wicked good carpet seller by EC3D Designs! He’s from their epic Scorching Sands Kickstarter, and it’s pretty safe to say that we probably won’t stop 3D printing everything from this sandy set until we’ve basically sliced ’em all. You might be wondering, how useful is this sitting vendor going to be in a tomb raider campaign? Oh, don’t fret – we have some ideas!

You can probably tell this is an older 3D print by those old-school FDM layer lines. We started with just a Prusa Mini printer and only later added a glorious Resin printer. Again, from a sitting distance, you don’t notice them at all. Kimmy Utah colored this guy up, and she did an excellent job. The lighter blue mixed with white, and those sassy red shoes are a home run.

DM Ben is going to install our newfound friend on the market streets of the nearest city near their first tomb exploration. For a reasonable amount of coin, he’s going to be an ongoing, valuable source of intelligence to the party. The players need as many details as possible before ascending into a dark and dangerous place. These sorts of shadhy NPCs keep the game moving, especially for a game group that craves more session combat and less chatter.

Lastly, we finish with a simple but necessary scatter terrain piece by Iain Lovecraft. This 3D print is from his delightful Desert Sands Kickstarter. You truly cannot have enough God statues in your tombs. Those guys were obsessed with the higher powers that be. Ancient Egyptians worshipped between 1,400 and 2,000 gods and goddesses throughout their 3,000-year history. That’s just bonkers.

We did this one in our darker craft-paint scheme, and we’re pretty happy with how this desert scatter terrain piece turned out. Since this one is on the smaller side, it makes sense that it would be inside the tomb. We really should 3D print a second one, though, as these would look especially cool if they flanked an important inner tomb doorway.

Until next time!

Greetings, sand sifters. Let’s shake out another dandy edition of Tomb Thursday…if you dare. This time we’ve got some Egyptian-style foes that are sure to raise a few arm hairs while exploring your latest resting place.

You can never really have too many miniatures when you begin building out a brand new game environment. Not to mention, we love, love 3D-printing ’em. Painting all those tiny model elements may not always be fun, but reveling in the final product certainly makes all that sweat equity worth it.

We’ll start with a beloved creator here at 3DRPG, the mighty Schlossbauer and his amazing army of free 3D-print STLs. We’ll often rescan his ongoing library just to remind us of what fabulous find we missed originally. He made this mythological warrior, Mazura, from something called The Adventure of Link.

Since Egyptian lore is filled with all sorts of crazy animal god combos, it seemed only natural that we 3D print a monster squad of these guys to patrol all those musty tomb hallways.

DM Ben found some hella courage and decided to try and paint these heavy mace wielders up himself because Kimmy Utah is drowning in a fierce backlog right now. Plus, it’s good for a novice painter to push himself.

Prime Flat White.

Boots: FAN Leather Brown + Soft Tone Wash.

Head P1: WAR Monster Brown + Soft Tone Wash.

Head P2: Dab some black for eyes and snout.

Weapon: ASAP Dark Wood & ASP Enchanted Steel + Dark Wash.

Hand Bandages: ASP Pallid Bone.

Shoulder Armor: FAN Shining Silver + Dark Wash.

Main Armor: FAN Gun Metal + Dark Wash.

Lower Armor: Contrast Snakebite Leather + ASP Maize Yellow.

Skin: ASP Crusader Skin + Soft Tone Wash.

Cape P1: Layer FAN Pure Red.

Cape P2: Contrast Flesh Tearers Red Edging + Red Tone Wash.

We did the base in our usual core desert paint scheme, then applied a light sand flock over some of it.

We wanted the cape to be Roman-esque and have that classic red look. However, these terrible tomb fighters are in the trenches, so they gotta be filthy. After all, guarding a Pharaoh’s treasure for the afterlife is dangerous, messy work. We felt that just using FAN Pure Red made the tattered cloak a bit too bright, so by adding that Citadel Contrast Red and a wash to it, the cloak looked more “lived in.”

You’ll notice here that one of our half-horse fighters seems to have lost part of his weapon. 3D print vets know that it’s somewhat common for a fragile piece to snap while removing supports post-print. We don’t like wasting resin, so if a mighty mace becomes a thumping club, that’s fine by us. Besides, DM Ben will always start a new paint job on one of these Island of Misfit Toys in case he really chooses poorly on a paint pot pick.

Next up, we tap into an ol’ faithful set for this desert campaign, Empire of Scorching Sands by EC3D Designs. There’s something extremely satisfying about going through a large Kickstarter and slowly bringing nearly every DnD STL to life. That’s certainly the case when it comes to their silly good collections of miniatures here. This creepy Beetle Swarm was a must-addition. You practically feel them slipping through those hairline cracks in the tomb walls.

Resident Painter Kimmy Utah was actually able to color this TTRPG monster swarm up for us many desert moons ago. We’re just now finding the right opportunity to share these creepy crawlies with you. This mini takes up 2×2 d20 squares, but we’re zoomed in on our photo here so our Prusa FDM layer lines are rather obvious (as we hadn’t learned about that Adaptive Layer slicing setting way back then). Nothing to fret about using the Arm’s Length rule, though. This deadly miniature gives us those epic 1999 Mummy movie vibes.

So there ya have it! Two more Egyptian-style STLs for that mysterious tomb beneath the sands! Until next time!

Greetings, fellow sandmen and sandladies. We’re getting ever so close to another swell weekend of gaming, and today’s picks are sure to come in handy, so let’s get to it!

DM Ben has been thinking more about potential tomb hazards, traps, and unexpected spell effects lately. So, the crew suggested we run some pieces through our fab Prusa MK4 FDM printer. We found some versatile scatter that certainly works in an Egyptian-themed gameboard. You just have to envision the final outputs and trust your instincts! Self-doubt is a real creativity killer.

Our 3D print premise makes total sense here, right? Tombs are sacred, well-executed, and heavily guarded places. Hence, you don’t just walk right on in and take whatever you like. Crypt architects are no fools. They’ve taken the right precautions and made finely detailed plans to thwart grave robbers at every turn. We just needed a way to demonstrate high-stakes security to our players.

Enter good ol’ Hayland Terrain and their marvelous selection of TTRPG STLs. They have a couple of nifty spell effect packs, and today we’re going to highlight two desert-ready FDM prints from their Spell Pack 2 set. We’ve actually printed all of these – a mark of a great series, right?

What’s especially cool is that you can use this first featured piece to build up the second piece! Meaning, we start with DM Ben describing how the tomb the party just entered has gone from eerily silent to a sudden gust of wind circling the chamber. That mysterious whoosh of air needs a focal point on your gameboard, and that’s where you drop in this beauty.

Nothing fancy on this paint job either. DM Ben just used the same steps as our previous air elemental, and our usual trusty sandstone base color. Easy peasy.

Next up is this double-wall of sand STL. Funny enough, we originally painted the single version of this spell effect in the traditional water effect theme (which turned out great). And then it just dawned on us, hey, this 3D print could easily just be a wall of sand, so let’s give that a go!

We used that same slick, sandy look (by Galladoria Games) with three simple Vallejo paint color steps. To help make it look like this wall of sand was violently moving, DM Ben left a little more white showing through than usual. Then, he applied sand flock and a couple of desert grass tufts to the base to bring it home. Fantastic.

With our earth and wind portions out of the way, we couldn’t resist sprinkling in a little fire. And for that, we spun up this red-hot sparkplug by mz4250. Check out this amazing Jackalwere!

Now, we adore this immensely talented creator and his absolutely stunning free library of almost endless DnD 3D prints. His Patreon was going through it, though, as his download links kept returning a painful 404 Not Found error. We’re happy to report that his URLs seem to be humming along again. Praise Pelor, all is right in the world again.

As we mentioned in an earlier hot-take post for our beloved ongoing Train Tuesday series, DM Ben is finally starting to get the hang of a good flame effect. Some of ya might be snickering a little here and saying to yourselves, “Dude, what’s the big deal? It’s just fire.” Well, we’re always striving to do better, so it feels good to show improvement. Keeps us motivated, ya know?

Prime Flat Black | Slap Chop Base.

Flame P1: Layer on ASP Zealot Yellow.

Flame P2: GSW Gloss Varnish.

Fame P3: ASP Blood Red edging.

Flame P4: Circle back and add edging to avoid any blotching.

Apologies for the stringing here. This is an older 3D print we pulled from our staggering Pile of Shame, and we hate wasting prints. So, we just clean ’em up as best we can (Arm’s Length Rule for the win, baby). To finish it off, we sprinkled a little black stone flock to seal the deal.

Until next time!

Greetings, fellow Greek citizens! We’ve got a historic DnD 3D Print spotlight today for this week’s edition of Tomb Thursday, and you’re sure to be a fan of these hard workin’ men!

We’re staying true to our weekly STL swap by pivoting back to some sandy miniatures after last week’s terrain feature. We’ll openly admit that we’re a bit behind on our Aether Studios’ desert FDM tiles. The good news is that we’ve got a large number of items 3D-printed, but we haven’t done a mass-batch paint job quite yet because we’re enjoying bringing you a nice variety of Egyptian-style prints. DM Ben isn’t pressing the team to rush anything and prefers we keep building a large library of minatures and terrain to pull down whenever he is ready to shift the campaign storylines. Besides print and painting stress is for the (dire) birds.

Today, we’re going to feature a fun paint mix of Hoplite warriors, but we learned a lot while spinning up this article, as we never really understood their specific place in history. So, of course, we wanted to share these interesting nuggets with y’all. A quick Google search revealed some juicy tidbits.

Hoplites were citizen-soldiers of Ancient Greek city-states (c. 7th–4th centuries BC), serving as heavy infantry armed with a spear and large shield (aspis) and fighting in a close-knit phalanx formation. As self-funded warriors, they were typically property-owning farmers or artisans, distinguished from specialized, full-time professionals like the Spartans. They formed the bulk of Greek armies, fighting in a packed phalanx where each soldier shielded the man to his left, creating a massive, pushing force known as othismos.

That leads us to our STL Creator spotlight and some amazing (supportless) sculpts from team favorite Brite Minis. They’re history buffs just like us and have a nice Greek section of miniatures (which all become available to you for a mere $5 monthly Patreon). We’ve 3D-printed nearly the entire collection. They’re all gems.

Resident painter Kimmy Utah painted all of today’s featured miniatures. Brite Minis’ models have lots of details, and DM Ben’s Wisco sausage fingers rarely do him any favors on these types of TTRPG 3D prints, so he happily tags out to a skilled artisan like Miss Utah. Longtime 3DRPGers already know we ask Kimmy to make duplicate miniatures slightly different, as we like varying paint schemes. It’s also easier to call out a miniature at the table like, “It’s the red helmet soldier’s turn.”

We rarely give Kimmy Utah precise instructions. You can’t stunt a great artist’s creativity, right?! What’s cool about this soldier batch is that she didn’t just do slightly different shields. Instead, she went all-in on different color themes. DM Ben considers this set some of the finest in our entire DnD 3D-print collection!

The other cool take on these Hoplite miniatures is that their robust history instantly creates a cool NPC opportunity. Imagine an ordinary citizen taking up arms against a tyrannical force and even having all their own soldier gear? What’s cooler than that? Maybe your adventuring party is tasked with rescuing him from captivity or joins him to take revenge on his enemies. Plenty of options to get this proud fighter into your campaign!

See? 3D printing and painting larger soldier squads can be darn fun! Until next time!

Greetings, sand dollar hunters! We’re pivoting back to some new trusty stone terrain today, and we think you’ll be down to try these DnD STLs too! Let’s hop to it!

We’ve really taken a terrain approach of less is not more, and a significant number of starting desert terrain options is imperative to ensure we don’t stifle DM Ben’s gameboard creativity. Hence, we continue to target 3D prints that can be used in a variety of scenarios and have a long track life.

Tomb entrances, in particular, are quite important, as there will be numerous mysterious resting places to explore (rather than one huge underground lair). Pharaohs not only had a place for their royal family, but there were smaller pyramids for their closest advisors, spiritual leaders, and even their builders. So today’s featured prints will be quite useful.

Let’s start with this TTRPG ruins scatter terrain piece by Loot Studios. This mysterious stack of stonecold bricks is from their amazing Buried Tomb set (one of our favs). We love all the tiny details here, including the hieroglyphs, torches, spider webs, and sandy base.

DM Ben messed around with this stack of stones and really went back and forth on which of our sandy paint schemes to use. He landed on the lighter interior-tile version, as he felt this DnD STL felt more like transition terrain than any sort of grand entrance. He used ASP Holy White for the cobwebs and then decided to put down a little sand flock to give it more of that ruins look.

From that very same Buried Tomb set, we also 3D-printed this hieroglyphic tablet. This is another subtle yet very useful scatter terrain piece because, of course, there are going to be several stone tablets in our tombs! Loot Studios did more of those charming spider webs and gave this one a nice sandy-style base, too!

DM Ben painted this one at lightning speed! He’s really grown attached to that Green Stuff World Tropical Turquoise color. We gave that bottle a go while making those tomb torches earlier, and that soothing teal has really stuck with us. He was also keen to make this one look rather weathered since some spiders are hanging out on it.

Lastly, we’re sneaking one more 3D print here, but this one was a little too generic to find the source. Still, we like including this one in our Egyptian pile because it bucks the traditional desert sand statue trend. DM Ben loves to drop something in an encounter that doesn’t normally belong. Like, who is this mystery woman, and why was she idolized like so? Juicy questions to say the least.

Until next time.

Greetings, fellow sand crawlers! Another Tomb Thursday slithers its way onto your screen. We’ve got a couple of fun miniatures who know the value of looking good while searching for riches Beneath the Sands! Allow us to introduce ’em.

We’re continuing our 3D print spotlight rotation of scatter terrain and miniatures, as we ultimately need a fine collection of both to produce truly meaningful gameboards. Sometimes we run into trouble identifying the origins of some of our STLs because a 3D print can sit idle for 18+ months. Still, it’s amazing what eagle eyes some of our longtime readers have, so we expect others to solve today’s case.

DM Ben loves a DnD miniature in fancy garb as it reminds him of all those old Egyptian desert classic moves. Everyone is always decked out in such great threads. So, he asked our team to ensure he had some flamboyant miniatures at his disposal as a little nostalgia nod.

Our first miniature is from our prepainted library and comes from Wizards of the Coast. This mini is a Human Male Druid and comes from their Icon of the Realms premium painted series. This guy just screams desert adventurer to us, and it’s a given he’ll get a role as a prominent NPC. We’ll probably just superglue him to a clear base, as he’s a little topsy-turvy.

Our next desert-style 3D Print was surprisingly difficult to source. All our Google image searches just brought up wizards wearing red robes. Frustrating to say the least. We thought for sure he was from Loot Studios, but no one in their friendly Discord recognized him.

Regardless, this guy was way too good not to share today, though! Resident painter Kimmy Utah picked up a paintbrush for this one and just crushed it! How she gets all the tiny details just right is beyond us.

These two cavaliers could even be adversaries. Each vying for the same treasure and continuously screwing up the others’ well-laid plans! DM Ben enjoys creating two opposing factions and placing the party squarely in the middle of all that chaos. We’ll see where the dice take us, but expect to see a lot more of these two troublemakers.

Until next time!

Greetings, fellow home bodies! Time for another weekly TTRPG edition of Tomb Thursday! Let’s roll out the welcome mat so you can see what’s inside today’s DnD post!

Traveling through a hot desert to finally locate a mysterious lost tomb is no picnic, folks. It’s a perilous, sweaty journey, and you’re sure to be exhausted as you draw close to those countless riches buried beneath the sands. Naturally, someone in your party is going to plead the case to take a long rest at a nearby settlement and recharge before putting their life on the line. No problemo – our 3D Printer was up to this terrain challenge.

Now obviously, you’re not going to have a small village sitting right on top of an unknown desert tomb (but you certainly could)! Instead, it’s like the dungeon master will create three-ish wandering monster travel events before finally reaching a small outpost. After resting and resupplying, the party might trudge through another day or two of travel before finally locating the X that marks the spot on their crude treasure map.

This travel event could also be a great opportunity to introduce one of Aether Studios’ desert skiffs into the campaign as the players rent a ride to minimize travel to the suspect dig site.

Aether Studios is our Egyptian tile maker of choice for this ongoing desert series, so it’s only fitting that they came through in the camel clutch yet again by offering these amazing Desert Dwelling FDM scatter terrain options. We’re going to feature two of them today, but have a couple of others to ultimately showcase as well!

Since this is bigger, bulkier terrain, DM Ben had no concerns painting these sandstone huts up for our DnD campaign. Besides, we already have two tried-and-true sandy paint schemes, so there’s zero brush anxiety here.

Now, FDM prints are really known to soak up a decent amount of paint, especially with larger pieces. Hence, we opted for the cheaper craft paint version of our darker sand scheme.

Here’s a quick recap of the steps:

Prime Flat White (critical)

Base with FolkArt Honeycomb

Drybrush FolkArt Linen Toile

Lightly Wash with Fanatic Strong Tone

We definitely recommend doing a batch paint when tackling all their different sand-dwelling buildings… a huge time saver. DM Ben is also pondering dropping in a little sand flock here and there, but that might distract one’s eye from the overall look and feel.

Aether Studios has tremendous set compatibility and modularity, so it’s no wonder we inadvertently grabbed the wrong roof for the single-story hut. There’s a reasonable amount of space inside each structure, so the scale here is solid. The taller building of the two is actually two floors with a pronounced roof piece.

Even better, these desert dwellings have several openings and windows where you can place your DnD miniatures for curiosity pulls or tough house-to-house battles! We really think you’re going to have fun adding these to your Egyptian terrain collection.

Until next time!
