Good to be back for another Tomb Thursday. Sorry, for the unexpected no-post yesterday. The power went out in the entire building complex here at 3DRPG studios, so we had to head home to functioning AC. No one wants to be in a non-air-conditioned building here in AZ in July. Anyways, let’s dig in!
Last week’s Tomb entry focused on an easy-to-apply, affordable desert paint scheme option, so today we’re going to showcase some opposing enemies sworn to protect these sacred grounds. We’re gonna need plenty of amazing miniatures before this series is all said and done!
You’ve heard us proclaim numerous times already that EC3D Design’s Empire of the Scorching Sands Kickstarter is the perfect complement to Aether Studios’ tomb 3D-printed terrain. And it’s pretty much a given that you will see us feature the majority of their STLs at some point. Well, today you’re going to see why as we feature their menacing Snakefolk miniatures.
Guest Painter Sunrise Sven grabbed a brush and colored these nasty sword slingers, and we just love ’em! He crushed their slimy, scaly skin and put them in the proper colorful garb to make them pop! The red bandana is such a sa-weet touch.
In terms of DnD 5e stat blocks for these baddies, there isn’t an existing Snakefolk monster, but we do have a couple of options. DMDave.com has heavy stats for a Xiphonan (Serpentfolk): AC 15 90 HP, +7 att/2d6+4 damage (one 1 bite, one sword attack).
AideDnD.com has stats for Yuan-ti Malison: AC 12 66 HP, +5 att/1d4+3 damage (one 1 bite, one sword attack). Their attacks change based on which body or Malison type they are in, which is pretty cool.
DM Ben will probably utilize both stat blocks at some point, depending on the encounter and the party’s level at that time.
Even from behind, these tomb guards are so frickin’ cool. It’s bad news for the office campaign because DM Ben loves soldiers and tends to get a bit carried away adding them to our gameboards. We’re going to send this same STL to Resident Painter Kimmy Utah so we can see her interpretation of them too.
Until next time!
