Our ongoing DnD blogging game of Pong continues! It was desert miniatures last week, so that means we return the TTRPG volley with some new terrain tile pieces and scatter terrain for this edition of Tomb Thursday. Step carefully, now.
Sacred Egyptian resting places will certainly feature plenty of steep stairways and a variety of specialty terrain. As DnD hobbyists, we gotta respect the build here and ensure we immerse our dice rollers as much as we can, right?! Today, we’ve got three new pieces to keep your own tomb 3D print plan humming along.
Let’s start with an STL from Cast n Play’s wicked good Terrain Essentials monthly Patreon. These guys must be butter because they are on a frickin’ roll, baby! Their Desert Winds series was an absolute fav, and we’ve 3D-printed every model. They’re packed with details, so to be honest, DM Ben is a bit intimidated to paint them up (hence the slow roll release). However, we knew these stairs would be a nice first attempt and serve as a helpful nudge to try a few more from this fab series.
Thankfully, our core Egyptian paint scheme made this elevated scatter terrain piece a breeze. DM Ben plans to use a bunch of elevated boards on our tomb crawls, so a good set of stairs is darn important. We snagged these from their Moonlight Dune Lounge set. We’re going to use this as one of the grand decents.
Next, we 3D-printed this Open Cantina Wall by Aether Studios, our core tile maker for Tomb Thursdays. Certainly, our pyramid will have some focal point rooms, so we wanted to ensure we had some specialty STLs in our gameboard build pile. We could see this being one of the entrances to a priest’s burial chamber or treasure room.
Once again, our core colors didn’t disappoint as this one came out swell. We added a miniature so you can better see the scale. We plan to have several 2×2 d20-squared monsters and wider hallways and entrances, which give a dungeon master all the smiles. This STL is from the must-print Middle Kingdom set.
Lastly, we have another tile from that very same Middle Kingdom set – the critical dead end. Tombs are nothing but mindbending mazes, so we can’t forget to 3D-print several of these Egyptian TTRPG tiles. It’s not if you get lost in a pyramid, but when. Either that or the original pyramid architect deserved his sealed fate.
As you’ve heard us mention before, we’re all about the half-height tiles so that it’s easier for everyone sitting down at our game table to see the whole board and maneuver their miniatures accordingly. This also means less filament and paint will ultimately be used, too.
The plan is to make several different dead-end versions. We’re starting with the classic cave-in and plan on other variations that we’ll share in the future as our terrain brains muster up other ideas. We already have a fun idea for the next iteration, but like all things-pyramid, it’s a secret for now. 🙂
Three pieces on their own that don’t exactly blow the roof off the joint, but when combined with all the other tiles we’ve featured to date, your DnD Egyptian Tomb continues to take shape one beautiful brick at a time!
DM Ben is in desperate need of some R&R and a four-day weekend, so we’ll be back online next Tuesday. Somehow, we think he still won’t be able to resist 3D printing and painting some more pieces though! 😉
Until next time!
