29 December 2025
Holiday greetings, fellow adventurers! We hope you had the most wonderful time of the year with all your family and friends, while also snagging a few items from our 2025 Holiday Gift Guide from jolly ol’ Saint Nick (rather than socks or a fruit cake). Let’s see where Miniature Monday takes us today!

Before we get into the catch of the day, we want to take a brief moment to thank all our readers for their grace as we adjusted our weekly release schedule here in December to spend time with our friends and family over the holidays. The last week has been a true blessing, giving us plenty of time to recharge our RPG batteries.
Even better, we were able to pull some 3D prints from our mountainous Pile of Shame and get a little ahead on our release schedules. A welcome relief, as we sometimes cut things close! We’re really jazzed to show you all the cool things were worked on this past week!

Today’s DnD blog post is a perfect example! DM Ben was chomping at the bit to try a new shark-style color scheme shared by the marvelous Miniature Hobbyist. We’ve referenced his terrific tutorials in previous posts because we appreciate how he speaks to novice painters like us.
In this particular step-by-step guide, he uses only a few paints to achieve a fantastic look! DM Ben desperately wanted to try it, but needed the holiday break to get some soothing sit-down time to get ‘er done finally (while playing Dimension 20’s Cloudward Ho in the background).

We had the paint scheme guide, so we now needed the appropriate DnD miniatures to take ’em for a test drive! Funny how life works sometimes: we’ll either have the minis/scatter terrain 3D-printed but unsure which paints to use, or the reverse. Once we fulfill both needs, then it’s time to roll up our sleeves and crank out some more TTRPG goodness.
In this case, we 3D-printed the miniatures months ago. It took some research to identify the correct color steps, and then we needed time to actually brush the prints.

Our featured STL comes courtesy of the mighty Schlossbauer. His tremendous library of free downloads is in a league of its own. Like, seriously, we can only think of a few 3D-print creators that are in his league. He calls this one a Shark Hybrid, and the sculpt is genuinely creepy in all the right ways.

We should have printed more of them so ol’ DM Ben could have batch-painted a full monster squad of five-plus for encounters, but we weren’t sure if we could replicate Miniature Hobbyist’s results. Indeed, you can relate to the fact that sometimes, no matter how hard you try, a particular YouTube tutorial doesn’t go as planned. So frustrating, right?!
Thankfully, this one went super smooth, and we even added our own personal touch to the base (although the photos aren’t helping us out here at all for that effect).

Let’s recap the paint steps we used here:
It’s worth noting that we also tested the initial base step using the Slap Chop technique and found that the white primer outperformed the darker primer.

Lastly, for the base, DM Ben had a moment of inspiration: he envisions an incredible initial encounter in which these freakish monsters shockingly emerge from the seas, walking upright as they come ashore! That scenario means shallow waters, right?!
Sadly, our photos here don’t do our water effect justice because the effect dries so darn clear. Hence, we need you to do a trust fall here and believe us when we say, the final bases are awesome! And it was snap…
Now, these guys will look like they’re marching straight from the shallow, murky beach waters and ready to throw down!
Until next time!
