Train Tuesday Part 141: Heavy Hitters

Greetings, fellow choo-choo’ers! The Forgotten Rails is bringing in some extra mech muscle to keep the peace and all those environmental protests to a minimum. Nothing to see here, people. Move along!

When we think of ruthless mechanical foes, we like them to be on the beefier side of the weight class. If they’re not lumbering piles of metal, we want them to have a nasty weapon that inflicts maximum damage. Now, we’ve introduced a slew of security robots in this series, but DM Ben wants as many miniature choices as possible when building future home-brewed DnD encounters.

Brite Minis and their monthly bargain Patreon have a whole series of Space Knights. We cherry-pick our favs as they sometimes fit well in our Hovertrain Steampunk setting. Today’s STL is called “Space Knight with Rocket Launcher,” and you can download it from their robust archives (as a monthly member).

DM Ben always keeps a couple of spare, primed 3D prints on his desk, so anytime he has a little excess paint from an ambitious bottle pour, he can use it on one of these “Scrap Paint” models. Waste not, want not, right? Besides, before you know it, you’ll have a freshly completed mini.

We still need to drop our classic WAR Elven Armour blue to indicate our Construct is powered on, and we’re thinking of adding that color to the Launcher opening. DM Ben plans to make several more and put them on active duty for Hovertrain valuable-cargo escorts.

Next we have another free download by the mighty Schlossbauer, who calls this hulking warrior Darknut. This walking basher takes a single d20 square, but his gigantic sword and shield slightly hang over adjacent squares. Just nasty and imposing.

This one sorta reminds us of The Mountain from Game of Thrones. This was our second scrap paint from this past weekend. We used many of the same colors above but added in ASP Ruddy Fur/Black Wash for some of the garb and GSW Zombie Dipping Ink/Contrast Skeletal Hoard for the huge shield.

Lastly, we wanted to share a fun, new DnD billboard to place on our traveling Hovertrain gameboard. We previously shared the free STL and our process in an earlier post, so now we’re just making new ones when the creative energy strikes us.

The scatter terrain message makes perfect sense here. Why would proprietor Briar Thorne advertise her affordable accommodations at the Bramble Boarding House? Next, we want to craft a Hovertrain Station directional sign so players know how close a nearby train is relative to their current location.
