We’re turning to pesky plants and all the trouble these stealthy carnivores can cause if you traverse an eerily quiet forest. Press on carefully, my friends. This one could get messy in a hurry.
If you need a particular plant or rock for your next DnD RPG gameboard, the wise 3D Printers out there will instantly peruse the library of Fantastic Plants & Rocks. And at $4.20, their tribe for four new sets a month is an absolute steal!
To set the scene, we need a few treacherous encounters as our game group presses toward the creepy cabin of a suspected witch who’s been snatching up several of Waterdeep’s innocent children. Omin Dran has tasked our crew with neutralizing the threat and if successful, they get the deed to her place which could make an excellent home base for the party.
The problem is Lyra is certainly not going to go quietly and her lair is so well protected that numerous hired guns have attempted to eliminate her but no one has been successful…yet.
DM Ben already shared the Scarecrow one-shot that gives a little more background on this kooky old lady. Now the group will learn (the hard way) that this night hag is using a lot of well-planned magic to attack and ultimately wear down the party before they hit her doorstep. So if anyone somehow survives these trials, it’s quite unlikely any remaining adventurers won’t be able to fend off her mimic protectors.
Due to the dense woods, the path ahead to our evil enchantress has few variations and that makes it ideal for treacherous traps and sneaky attacks. So that’s where these Carnivorous Plants by Fantastic Plants & Rocks come in. With their False Appearance ability, they can suddenly strike with great fury! DM Ben will
A Giant Flytrap’s starting stats are a bit too beefy for our fourth-level party of six: AC 16, HP 102, 2d10+4 piercing damage with a potential grapple. So we found a lower-level homebrew variant by Sebastian Oyarce Pezoa – the Mantrap. We really dig the added Attractive Aroma and Rooted Defense abilities.
DM Ben is just going to increase the reach to 15 ft (which will go nicely with their Reactive ability) but reduce the HP from 51 to 35 as he wants four monsters in this particular fight. Remember, this isn’t a boss fight – it’s a death by a thousand cuts. 😉
And don’t forget that the group has a standing contract with Rishardo Montalwand to harvest any unusual foes so that he can keep his Castco spell component shop shelves stocked. We use the Thieves Guild’s awesome harvesting tool and the Corpse Flower table will work swell here.
And just like that, you’ve got yourself a plant-based battle. 🙂
