We’ve brewed up a little Monster Miniature Wednesday for you today as we’re looking to do a little double duty with one of our upcoming Forgotten Rails Hovertrain cars! Let’s press forward…but carefully.
There’s something about DnD monsters with big mouths and sharp, pointy teeth that makes us want to find all the 3D prints we can! Throw in some drool and long limbs, and then you’re really talkin’!
So, we mentioned up top that today’s 3D monster miniature print will help us populate one of our hovertrain cars in our Forgotten Rails series. Aether Studios created an amazing Livestock train car for their Onasan set. These stalls can fit either larger (2×2 d20 squares) or smaller (1 d20 square) miniatures. In our next Train Tuesday weekly installment, we will showcase this completed, painted car. 🙂
With that said, DM Ben wants to ultimately fill those animal stalls with several fun, unique creatures and build a precious cargo transport one-shot DnD encounter. One monster lept out at us as we perused the display cases at 3DRPG Studios in sunny Arizona. This free download is technically called a Wretch and was done by Yasashii Kyojin Studio.
We leaned on resident painter Kimmy Utah to color this running house of teeth and think it turned out swell! We love the running motion vibes here because we can see our party being chased down a dungeon hallway or open road.
The only trick with this squig-like monster mini is the single planted foot isn’t the sturdiest. So, you have to handle these miniatures with kid gloves or add a little Vallejo Terrain Earth Texture Gel to reinforce it to its base.
These Squigs take up 1×2 d20 squares and look really cool charging forward against the party. Now, does this guy need to shed a few pounds? Yes. Do we think that holiday weight will slow him down? Sadly, no. The DM will undoubtedly call out some drool from its countless teeth as it bulldozes toward you!
We printed a pack of these guys and did slightly different color variations, but our Hovertrain transport livestock car will be transporting a single, captured Squig to an eager collector.
Regarding our monster stats, there were a couple of fun online variations: the Great Squig and the Cave Squig. DM Ben digs the Great Squig stats since we have a six-member, fourth-level group of players in our ongoing DnD work campaign. Plus, that Extra-Boingy ability cracked us up here.
Pretty fun, right? We are taking a few days off here for the rest of the week to do some heavy-duty behind-the-scenes painting, but stay tuned for some more cool monster options to populate our Hovertrain car.
