We’ve been chewing on this game hook for a while now – a daring band of buccaneers eager to seize the riches that ride on The Forgotten Rails. Besides, as we all know, everything is better with pirates!
Each Friday, we will introduce a new member of our air rover crew until we have enough quirky minis to confidently create an engaging DnD one-shot encounter. These outlaws will also give us plenty of future story hooks and recurring characters.
First, let’s lay down some creativity guardrails. Each privateer will have the following attributes:
3DRPG adores pirate miniatures of all kinds, so we don’t plan on limiting our band of misfits to a certain number.
Our first batch of pirates STLs are from EC3D Designs and their Depths of the Savage Atoll series. It’s one of our favorite sets and is a natural fit here. We also plan on tapping into STL Miniatures and Printable Scenery for even more mini choices. One thing is for sure, our hobby fully embraces the pirate genre.
We also plan on a little double duty as we just finished up the Caesar Cetacean Boat by Aether Studios. That ship was featured on our Twitch Channel as we 3D-printed its many pieces. We’re now moving that one to the assembly/clamps stage.
Using miniatures and scatter terrain in multiple environments (e.g., high playability) really fires up our engines.
Resident painter Kimmy Utah picked up a brush to ensure we had the most colorful crew possible. EC3D Designs’ STLs are nearly all support-free and come with a combined base option, which is such a real timesaver. We love everything about this paint job, but honestly, that wood base tugged at our heartstrings the most.
Let’s create the cool details for our inaugural Train Raider crew member.
Tusk holds the clan’s most valuable possessions and tracks every ounce of treasure. He trusts few with a hot temper and a cranky persona.
Waterdeep’s Omin Dran and The Forgotten Rails collective (3M) want this train raider problem to go away. Terrifying passengers and looting cargo is bad for business, so they have a strong security presence on any traveling Hovertrain. Still, it’s not easy to outsmart a well-oiled train-raiding outfit who is usually one step ahead of everyone else.
Until next week!
