With our core pirate crew in hand, it’s finally time to reveal who commands these Hovertrain outlaws! Ladies and gents – the Captain will see you now…
We’ll still add a few more swords to the mix, but after a spirited 3DRPG staff debate, we selected our favorite 3D print to lead the pillaging and plundering that’s about to torment traveling Hovertrains on The Forgotten Rails.
Sure, there were plenty of traditional scullywag miniatures to choose from, but we wanted a more memorable and unique character as our lead villain in our homebrewed Hovertrain campaign setting. Our selection was part STL sculpt and part paint job, and we hope you’ll agree with our top skipper pick!
Longtime creator, mz4250, whose work has been a staple on 3DRPG, stole our hearts with this free WereTiger STL. We have a standing rule to provide specific artistic color direction to resident painter Kimmy Utah on the rarest of occasions. Spouting off orders isn’t our style, and we never want to stifle artistic expressions.
So, it was quite a hoot when both the painter and DM Ben assumed this 3D print was a panther. It turns out he’s a WereTiger, but we don’t mind our inadvertent identification here in the least!
A black panther is a highly intelligent and calculating beast that immediately strikes fear in those who encounter it. And those yellow eyes are so fierce — like he’s almost staring right through you! Even better, that darker body color makes its chiseled muscle frame absolutely pop! Kimmy Utah’s green clothing color choice also pairs beautifully with the 3D print’s primary darker color. A total homerun here.
Now, the only bummer is that mz4250’s work can sometimes be a little on the frail side, and as a result, our models don’t always survive the mail call round trip between AZ and Utah. Sadly, we lost part of its bow and the secondary sword during transit. Still, we never lose sleep over these occasional inadvertent bumps and bruises and consider the collateral damage the cost of doing business.
We even add Siraya Tech Tenacious Resin to our regular Anycubic Resin bottle for extra protection. Yes, this bendy additive isn’t cheap, but it can make a world of difference, especially with thinner, more fragile prints. So, if you get more 3D-print breaks than you like, we highly encourage you to try this handy Tenacious Resin.
Now, let’s whip up the particulars for our faithful crew’s undisputed Captain:
We think the WereTiger DnD 5e stats fit perfectly here, but we’ll upgrade his sword and bow to magical, add a claw gauntlet to his offhand, and even add studded leather armor made up of exotic rare hides (from fallen foes) to make him a more formidable villain for our level five party.
Right now, our Captain is formulating his master pirate plan for his very first Hovertrain strike, and he wants to open with a bang! The Forgotten Rails will soon never forget the name Jaguar Jack!
Until next time!
