Even though it’s Wednesday, we couldn’t help but do another Train Tuesday blog post. Hopefully, you’ll see why and understand our conundrum…
Many of you may not be aware of our ongoing process for Resident Painter Kimmy Utah. We 3D print new pieces every week and build up a big set of DnD miniatures and scatter terrain for her to color. We typically mail out a box of 225-ish pieces at a time.
After about three months, she returns a completed box to us. We then rinse and repeat this process. It’s heavenly. We recently received a superb painted miniature from Loot Studios, and now we don’t know what to do! #FirstWorldProblems
The 3D print in question is High Sorcerer Grigori from Loot Studio’s Pact of Greed set. He’s a bit delicate, but the sculpt is exceptional, and you can’t help picking up what this arcane madman is putting down.
Before we share our current conundrum, a quick refresher for newer DnD readers. The Forgotten Rails Hovertrains are the mastermind creation of three partners: a tycoon (the money), a blacksmith (the muscle), and last but not least, a wizard (the magic). They are known around Waterdeep as 3M.
So here we are, many moons later, feeling like we had the perfect miniature selections until Loot Studios abruptly crashed our party and gave us a new wizard sculpt that we’re not sure we can ignore. Again, we really dig our previous selection: this taller arcane caster with a flock of crows was a great pick!
Then, this new maniacal spellcaster graces our doorstep, and we’re not sure we can refuse him. Just look at the guy – crazy as all get out, right?! He seems more imposing and colorful in every way. Can you trust him? Hard to say!
Kimmy Utah painted him in such a way that you can practically feel the wind kicking up his robes while muttering something to himself. He gives off that vibe like he’s always putting his back to people to concealing whatever he’s stirring up or conjuring in those creepy hands.
The 3DRPG team concocted the following scenarios:
All good choices, right?! For now, DM Ben likes the idea of starting with the calmer original miniature choice and then planting rumors that no one has seen Leeland Farce for months. The few who have said he is going through some sort of transformation and is becoming increasingly crazier by the day.
Leeland is responsible for the raw energy that powers our monstrous Hovertrains. Few people know anything about the mined Corederite material used to extract the immense amount of energy for the trains’ engines. It would make sense that bending this powerful arcana is starting to take a toll on our resident wizard and changing him for the worse. My oh my, how the DnD homebrew plot thickens!
Until next time!
Side note: The 3DRPG team will be taking a little holiday break for the rest of the week to do some 3D-print painting while spending some time with the fam. 🙂
