3DRPG hasn’t featured too many DnD terrain buildings (so far), but that’s all about to change, as we have an amazing Fishing Shack to share with y’all. Grab your bait and pole, and get comfy!
A seaside dwelling probably seems like an odd choice, ey? Yes and no. Well, we have a great NPC in our DnD work campaign called Ewin McHook. Waterdeep has never seen such a skilled angler (and boat builder). After he hung up his hooks, Ewin started a bait & tackle business called Hook, Line & Sinker. Now, his beloved boy, Shamus, recently disappeared, and many think the young lad is a victim of the mysterious old woman in the Sword Coast’s High Forest. So, you can see, we already have the perfect setting and just needed the perfect terrain building to tie it all together.
As a longtime subscriber to Infinite Dimensions Games’ immense-value monthly Patreon, we had a ton of FDM-printed building choices to send to Arkansas Adam. However, this Fishing Shack is such a gorgeous model that it lept off 3DRPG Studios’ game shelves and was a unanimous staff pick to send to the brushes!
Alas, this is our last round of weekly print and paint showcases with Laughing Bear Games. We’ve had such an incredible time working together, and we hope to collaborate with him again (wink, wink). The good news is that Arkansas Adam seems quite busy these days, so thankfully, it appears we fulfilled our end of the bargain by getting the word out about how incredibly talented he is. Seriously though, drop him a paint request on Instagram and check out his Etsy store.
Our crew gets rather intimidated by TTRPG terrain buildings, so it’s incredibly helpful to see how an expert tackles a bigger and bulkier terrain piece. Reactions like, “Oh, now I see how he did that particular section” or “What a slick color combination – we gotta try that” were quite common during this unboxing. Painting is much easier when you have a tangible piece to model your own brush strokes after. Take the plunge and request an online quote from a pro painter for something in your pile of shame. Having some tangible inspiration in front of you while you paint really reduces the anxiety of it all.
We have a couple of disclaimers to share here. The first is we forgot to include the doors during the photo shoot. The other is we never sent Arkansas Adam the second tree portion. Oops and ugh. Of course, we’ll add the door for gameplay and either call that large tree area a stump or DM Ben will paint that second piece to a point where it blends in enough to attach to the model.
Guys, this Fishing Shack STL is absolutely stuffed with eye-catching details. We just adore it (like those hanging fish on a rope)! And Arkansas Adam was keen on finding all those subtle nuggets and splashing bits of color on ’em here and there. There’s just so much balance to the final piece. Plus, his rock shading is so good that it should be a crime.
DM Ben plans to make Ewan McHook a major NPC in our work game. Assuming the group successfully rescues Shamus, our retired sailor will indebted to them. That leaves all sorts of hooks:
Look at all that DnD content just sitting there for the taking. Love it!
Our pictures don’t do justice to this 3D-printed piece from Infinite Dimensions Games and colored by Laughing Bear Games, so be sure to click the YouTube short above.
And if you’re a pro painter looking to drum up some business and shiny new examples for your customer gallery, please send us a private message on Instagram, and let’s see if we can do some fun projects together. Our process is super streamlined: We mail you the finished 3D prints, you send them back painted (as your schedule allows), and you get a copy of every professional asset we generate so you can use them as needed.
Until next time!
