Hey, if the STLs ain’t broken, keep printing ’em, right?! Back to the Ec3D Designs well we go for this week’s installment of Miniature Monday!
This bellow-ly fellow comes courtesy of EC3D Designs original Everyday Folk Kickstarter. You should grab both Kickstarters in this series but if you have to pick for budgetary-sake, start with the initial offering.
As you’ve probably realized, if there’s a great townsfolk mini out there, 3DRPG “has to haves it” (as ol’ Sméagol always said). After all, how many more skeletons, orcs, goblins, trolls, etc can we acquire? Wait – don’t answer that!
Intricate details abound on this supportless mini so get ready to utilize a plethora of different colors from your paint library. The classic bell, the scroll, the puffy shirt, and even that adorbs footwear!
This particular mini might have hooked us early because of our love for the newsreader from the HBO series Rome. He, in our book, was the absolute best hear ye man of all time (played by the talented Ian McNeice). The gestures he made while belting out the latest and greatest decrees just cracked us up.
Y’all might remember another brilliant actor from that series, Ray Stevenson, who recently played Baylan Skoll in the Star Wars Ahsoka series (and sadly suddenly passed away in 2023). Rome is really worth a watch if you haven’t seen it already. DM Ben has watched Rome twice…so far.
Anywho, here’s quick snap of the back of the mini. Resident painter, Kimmy Utah, interjected more fun colors…especially that purple cape. It’s so perfect. You’re gonna have fun with this guy.
So then we started to think about what sorta things might a town crier might “cry out” as it were. And of course, Reddit already had a fun thread on ideas for the dungeon master crowd. You could go more general like, “The mayor has instilled a new horse hitching tax of 10 SP for any government building or local business.” Or, you can even roll a d100 and pull a quickie or two from this other Reddit list (the three-eyed sheep was our fav)!
Also, you could try to tailor a news snippet specific to the game group’s own campaign like, “Another child has gone missing! Speak with the constable if you have any tips or sightings.” That story hook is actually going to be our play here as we introduce our upcoming “Cabin in the Woods” encounter that we touched on last week.
Now can anyone lend us a few silver pieces for that horse hitch tax? We’re running a bit short at the moment. 😉
