You what is better than Miniature Monday? Miniature Mimic Monday! Let’s take a closer look at one of our Night Hag’s protectors.
We’re pulling this surprise monster STL from one of DM Ben’s absolute favorite EC3D Designs sets: Empire of the Scorching Sands. Nearly every mini and scatter terrain piece can ultimately serve a variety of uses in your own campaigns, and that is the true definition of “great value.”
First, let’s quickly catch up our new readers. An old woman living in Waterdeep’s High Forest is suspected of snatching up innocent kiddos. Town rumors say the old woman is a Night Hag in disguise and somehow uses her young captives to supplement her powers.
The witch, whose real name is Lyra Shaw, knows her time is up, but before she departs her cabin in the woods, she wants to size up the party and maybe take one or two out during her escape.
This particular Animated Rug STL by EC3d Designs works perfectly for the upcoming mimic battle. It covers a 2×2 set of d20 squares, and we like that size because we plan on giving this carpet bomber an area smother attack (see below).
Previously, we highlighted our list of potential mimics in a previous DnD blog post. That list included the following:
As noted above, each mimic gets a special ability — DM Ben just needs to flesh out the specific mechanics of each one.
So in our ticked-off tapestry’s case, besides D&D Beyond’s 5e Mimic stats, it will be using a smoother spell as crafted on Roll20 (+5 to hit, DC 13 to escape, 2d6+3 bludgeoning damage). We’re just going to tweak it to cover a reach of 20 ft (or up to four medium or smaller creatures).
Next week, we’ll do a larger post to share the remaining mimics and what those specific abilities noted above will look like!
