Miniature Monday: Wait, What?

Greetings, fellow mini collectors. We hope you had a rousing weekend of DnD and the dice were heavily in your favor. We have a couple of wild and wacky TTRPG miniatures for you today. Let’s begin!

While perusing our display cases for today’s selections, we latched onto the “Well, you don’t see that every day” sorta vibe. STLs that you build an entire NPC or encounter around because they’re too fun not to ultimately get onto your game table.

We’ll start with this closet leaper by STL Miniatures. This wild DnD miniature is from their wonderful Frost City 3 Kickstarter and absolutely deserves a late pledge if you don’t already have it in your MMF library. We’ve showcased quite a few 3D prints from this one, and there’s still plenty more to tap here.

Resident painter Kimmy Utah was the lead colorist on both 3D prints today, and she earned her gold pieces on these miniatures. This piece has so many tiny details. The time and effort absolutely pay off here, but you’re gonna need to get comfortable to get through this one.

We’re not sure if there’s any particular inspiration or backstory for this surprise guest. Like, wondering aloud if he’s from Curse of Strahd or a previous fantasy novel. DM Ben plans to use him as an escaped prisoner. As the chain on the cabinet indicates, maybe the players are guarding a room and don’t realize what’s inside until the captor finally busts free.

Our second unique miniature today is from good ol’ Loot Studios. This Looting Goblin is from their Goblin Mines set and says everything you need to know about their sleazy race. There’s some irony in this pick because we have more goblins than we can shake a hobbit at, yet we don’t use them in our games too often. Sure, Goblins make a lot of appearances in early-level campaigns. However, they lose much of their thunder as players level up.

This thieving monster’s greed knows no bounds, and he can lift the weight of the world on his back for enough plundered gold and treasure. Kimmy Utah did an amazing job with all the shiny loot, and her small brush strokes captured every last detail.

DM Ben likes the idea of the players running into this greedy thief sprinting down a dungeon hallway. The players will be coming from the opposite direction and quickly realize a very angry monster (like a dragon) isn’t happy he swiped its treasure. The group then enters a no-win fight and learns that sometimes a fight isn’t worth sticking around for…a valuable lesson indeed.
