We’re just in a hovertrain miniatures sorta mood this week, as we have another free download that eloquently slides into our Forgotten Rails setting. Let’s check out the extra muscle.
This is a Veneranda DnD miniature by the marvelous mz4250 – a brain-jar villain from Rime of the Frostmaiden. We thought he would make a perfect bodyguard for our ever-growing Constructs list. Our 3D printer handled the countless details with ease.
Do y’all remember the trio behind the Forgotten Rails? They’re nicknamed 3M: the money, the magic, and the muscle. All three need each other for the hovertrain to survive, but they’re not exactly buddies. They don’t like to even be in the same room with one another, and bickering ultimately breaks out whenever they’re forced to come to the table.
Waterdeep’s Omin Dran doesn’t like to play favorites, but deep down, he knows the mysterious arcane magic is the most critical part of the realm’s new transportation system. Consequently, he looked the other way when Leeland Farce decided to make his own bodyguards. Our wizard doesn’t trust anyone and thinks other life forms are always after his wondrous secrets.
Naturally, Fitzwalter and Strutt aren’t thrilled about a powerful and mysterious spell caster keeping even more weapons at his disposal. Hence, it’s pretty likely they’ll add their own security teams sooner rather than later.
Novice painter DM Ben took a stab at coloring these 3D prints himself, and he’s happy with how these shiny sword swingers turned out. The paint job is nothing to write home about, but it gets them onto the table sooner rather than later. Gold seemed like a solid armor color, and the red accents on their decorative armor gave the minis a samurai warrior vibe. Ben also added a gloss on the red plates to make them pop a little more.
Regarding their stats, we plan on giving these heavy hitters some strong to-hit and attack damage from their two-handed greatswords. Incredibly fast, they’ll get two thunderous swings with a daze DC save on impact. Anyone looking to get their hands on Farce should bring some serious firepower.
Interestingly, these walking wonders are the only known constructs that can move freely with the founding wizard without the need to be tethered to The Forgotten Rails’ hovertrains and stations. That shocking functionality trait freaks out observers, and many have called for the removal and destruction of these intimidating Constructs. To that protest, Farce is asking everyone to direct their complaints “to that brick wall over there.” #SouthPark
Did you notice one of the prints is a bit taller than his bruising counterparts? We often experiment with the dimensions of a miniature during slicing to compare them and decide which one suits us best. Different sizes on squads of miniatures are also quite cool because that larger mini could represent a more formidable fighter and maybe the officer of the group.
These protective Constructs were inspired by our love of “The Empire Strikes Back” and the red-coated Royal Guards that protected the Galatic Emperor. It’s such an epic scene when he comes down the ramp to inspect the Death Star. And now we have our own set of intimidating bodyguards!
Until next time!
