This week’s version of Terrain Tuesday has us looking to the heavens thanks to EC3D Designs. Let’s take a magnified looksie!
This out-of-this-world scatter terrain piece comes courtesy of EC3D Designs’ underappreciated Heroes Hoard series…specifically the Library & Study Decor set. We printed it on our Prusa Mini in FDM but you could also print it in resin with no worries.
Resident painter, Kimmy Utah, went with a simple metal color scheme but you certainly could try some of those fab new metallic colors from Army Speedpainter’s Metallic Set 2. DM Ben has experimented with many of them and they’re a lot of fun (and forgiving).
Here’s a nifty backside shot of the magnificent model. You can practically hear a gnome spinning that wheel to get this telescope in position, can’t ya?
DM Ben isn’t exactly sure how he’ll ultimately mesh this beauty into a future DnD sesh as he’s more of a dungeon crawl and forest kinda guy. A few things did come to mind though…
Maybe this particular telescope lets the party see deep into enemy territory to help give them a leg up on an upcoming mission (sorta like Forgotten Realms Telescope of True Vision). Or, maybe our mighty viewfinder provides signs from the skies like incoming torrential weather or cryptic messages from the Gods. Lastly, some mysterious objects could be falling around Waterdeep only to quickly disappear…so the party needs a helping lens to pinpoint the next one before it vanishes again.
That last encounter hook is what DM Ben plans on using when the campaign timing is right. Of course, any of those ideas will require a GP fee from the gookie city astronomer, Professor Fizzle Brite.
Nevertheless, all of the astronomer lovers out there now have the perfect piece of scatter terrain to help their party reach for the stars.
