Greetings, fellow weekend anglers. Need a spot to sell those prized catches and share all those fish stories? We’ve got a simple 3D-printed setup to bring that roadside scene to life. Let’s go!

DM Ben often craves NPCs and townsfolk over slick adventurers and big baddies when it comes to finding and 3D printing new miniatures (and scatter terrain). Besides, your best homebrewed one-shot encounters are often the most memorable based on what you drop on the game table. Really unique pieces are also so darn inspiring to dungeon masters and really get those storytelling wheels turning.

First things first, we need a merchant to sell his abundant, tasty wares. This fishmonger was the perfect choice. He’s an older miniature, and we searched the ends of the Internet to identify him. DM Ben swore this angler was by STL Miniatures, but alas, we hit our search time limit (max 2 hours) and couldn’t specifically locate him.
Also, those fish baskets were from a previous Scatter Chatter post, but we felt they were the perfect accents here. At the time, we didn’t even know how we’d insert them into an encounter. Now, lo and behold, they’re perfect for our next piece.

The centerpiece of this post is a mobile market stall by STL Miniatures, from their fab Fantasy Props 2 Kickstarter. It came in three themes: tavern, market, and dungeon. Of course, you should get ’em all, as we did…wink, wink.

Resident painter Kimmy Utah grabbed a brush and filled this cart with so much personality and color. We’re showing you the opposite side here so you can see how you could even slip in a smaller mini in that insert area.

Let’s finish off this rain-soaked Friday DnD post in AZ with a couple of scenario thought starters. Let’s start by setting the scene. As your adventurers travel down a country road, they see a simple fishmonger pulled up at an intersection and bellowing, “fressssssssssssssh fish!” DM Ben always likes to start by crafting a good-guy vs. bad-guy encounter.

As a good guy, he’s simply selling a variety of yummy, right-off-the-hook fish. Some are even rare and could have magical properties or be perfect for much-needed spell components. This humble merchant could also be a valuable source of intel for a current mission.
As a bad guy, he lures (pun intended) unsuspecting travelers to his cart and lowers their guard. Then, with a simple touch of his nose, he signals some thugs to spring from behind a burm and attempt to rob his customers of everything they have.
Until next time!
