Aether Studios’ fab Egyptian 3D-printed terrain needs a full cast of characters to truly shine, so this week we’ll pivot to the miniatures side of the tomb.
We’re going to do our best to alternate between terrain and miniatures, but sometimes the time it takes to complete a piece affects our D&D blog publication schedule. Still, we believe it’s essential to provide you with a diverse selection, so you have all the intriguing options you need to make your own tomb!
Our explorers will need a variety of adversaries as they storm ancient crypts in search of riches. It’s not like they can jimmy a few locks and clear the place out in fifteen minutes. As a Dungeon Master, you want to give your adventurers a run for their money (pun intended).
You’re also not going to build out all this terrain, only to realize at the end that you have nothing to put in it! You have to plan and build it out simultaneously to take advantage of the batch painting process.
Last week, we expanded on ways to add some extra touches to our core desert paint scheme. This week, we’re using those same paint steps and some fun flocking to color up one of our favorite sandy sculpts.
Today’s DnD 3D print is a Sand Golem Elemental by EC3D Designs. This menacing foe comes from their Empire of the Scorching Sands Kickstarter. It’s a must-have for this DnD environment, as these STLs complement Aether Studios’ Pharaoh tiles so well.
This is a 2×2 D20 square miniature, and it doesn’t have tiny eyeballs, so ol’ DM Ben didn’t mind coloring this one. He stuck with our primary Reaper paint scheme and then let some flock take it over the finish line. He added a very light drybrush of ASP Forest Sprite to the base, as he wanted just a touch of green in it.
For the flock, DM Ben literally used some saved sand from one of our Cali beach trips. We like its darker, coarser texture and applied it to spots that were more prone to shadows. The backside of the model indicates that it is forming from the ground, so we let more of its slapchop base show through there.
For our newfound monster’s 5e stat line, we like the version from D&D Wiki: AC 12, HP 75, +5 att/2D6+3. We also like all the abilities that come with this pesky medium Construct, including Berserk and Immutable Form.
And just like that, we have our first enemy on the board!
Until next time!
