We’re back with another delightful edition of Tomb Thursday! Our DnD desert content usually falls into three super-duper categories: terrain tiles, miniatures, and, of course, scatter terrain. Let’s see what we cooked up for today!
We’re calling this one “Scatterbrained” because you gotta think through all the choices out there and 3D-print STLs that will work in a variety of Egyptian-style encounters. While unique pieces certainly have their place, reusability is our jam here at 3DRPG Studios located in sunny Chandler, AZ. We’re going to feature two of our mainstay creators in this series: Aether Studios and Iain Lovecraft!
Let’s start with these cool light source statues from Iain Lovecraft’s marvelous Desert Adventures Kickstarter. We all know how much those ego-driven Pharaohs love a good statue. Like, stone idols are their jam. We’ll definitely need to end up with a nice variety so our Pharaoh villain can appease the gods.
We’ve settled on two different sand paint schemes: a more elaborate one that utilizes smaller Reaper paint pots made famous by Galladoria Games and another, more affordable version that uses larger traditional craft paint bottles concocted by Youtuner Terrainify). We decided to apply the cost-effective Desert paint scheme to these particular statue STLs.
DM Ben happily colored these two light-source statues up for our DnD post today. The paint steps are so darn simple and fast:
Easy peasy, right?! A super common question for any new encounter is, of course, “Is there a light source here?” Utilizing efficient scatter terrain that answers that age-old question before it’s even asked means these are a must-print for us.
The twist here is that DM Ben wanted to put some rocks in the copper tops so it felt more like a true light source. First, he added some traditional coarse black rock flock, but it didn’t impress him. So, he reached for some Red Glitter Rocks by Basecrafts to better make the point. Now, it’s more obvious what their purpose is here. We’ll probably print up six-ish of these and pick our spots for their placement.
Next, we’re going to feature a couple of Throne Room Statues by Aether Studios. These beauties are from their must-print Pharaoh III Statue Room set. We’ve printed every STL from this nifty collection, and are looking forward to sharing them all with ya. We wanted to show off these two particular statues because we adore their simplicity.
We originally 3D-printed these two on our Prusa Mini and in FDM. However, we’ll probably go with resin on some of the other scatter terrain STLs. The cool thing either format will certainly do. Our affordable desert paint scheme really shines here. Just beautiful. We especially love the worn look.
Look at that, gang. We’ve whipped up for fab pieces of Egyptian scatter terrain in no time at all. No fuss, no muss, right?!
Until next time!
