The Forgotten Rails’ expensive upkeep is based on two core business principles: freight and passenger transport. Let’s showcase one of our new luxury liners, the Lounge Hovertrain car, and explain why it will be the talk of the town.
Today, we’ll showcase one of our new VIP Hovertrain cars and all the plush services that go into making sure its very important passengers’ every whim is fulfilled. The wealthy always prioritize comfort (and security) whenever traveling.
This is our second foray into first-class travel on The Forgotten Rails. Earlier, we featured a Sleeper Hovertrain car because sleeping while lying down is undoubtedly a luxury for the everyday folks of Waterdeep. 😉
As always, our primary train tiles come from the masterminds at Aether Studios. This time, we pulled from their Yardworks Industrial set. This FDM collection has a slick Owner’s Car theme, so we pulled two tiles: the Parlor Car and the VIP Car. We want to show that Waterdeep is no different in that there are two clear classes of citizens: the rich and the working class…some things never change, right?Â
Novice painter DM Ben took a stab coloring this Loung Hovertrain car. He found it especially tricky because of all the inadvertent nooks and crannies involved in assembling these four FDM tiles. That’s the beauty of using the Slap Chop post flat black primer step, though — it helps blend the areas one can’t reach.
He decided to keep the paint themes simple by using a darker purple for larger window curtains, the usual wood floor theme, dark leather for the chairs, and a darker red for the couch and interior privacy curtains. For the exterior, we once again went with the gold leaf decor.
Could our Hovertrains be more polished and have the perfect VIP-style paint job? Yes, but this is still the inaugural phase of mechanized airborne travel, and it’s a messy business. The powerful engines produce an immense amount of dirt and dust. Thus, we continue to embrace and love the overall grime theme here.
What does VIP get you on The Forgotten Rails? Well, after one pays the inordinate gold piece fee, the passenger receives the following perks:
Not a bad ride, indeed, right? Until next time!
