We were going to use “Print Ho!” as our Pirate Friday greeting, but HR might come bolting down our office hallway, so we’ll leave that play on words in the rearview mirror. We have another ragtag crew member to announce, and this one is cooking up big trouble.
DM Ben wants a mighty cast of characters here because he can use them in our Forgotten Rails Hovertrain campaign setting and a traditional seafaring setup. Plus, everyone in a pirate crew never backs down from a fight, making for some epic DnD encounters.
Now, some of our regulars might be saying, “Hey! What about Taters McGee? You already picked a cook!” You’re not wrong, but Taters is more of a line cook than a head chef. Besides, a moody crew that only gets potato dishes is sure to mutiny sooner rather than later!
So, that’s where today’s mini by STL Miniatures comes into play! We pulled this magnificent specimen from their must-own Fantasy NPCs Kickstarter. We love how the STL sculpt emits so much movement. Can’t you hear this big oaf stirring that dinner pot with a hearty belly laugh?!
Resident Painter Kimmy Utah always does excellent work, but then there are times when she just takes our breath away. There are so many tiny details here, but she dropped unique colors on all of them. As good as his “tool belt” is, we think that swirling stew pot is her Michelin star.
Next, let’s drop some details on this hash slinger and get him below deck!
His moniker is a shout-out to Stripes and beloved actor John Candy. So, you might have noticed he has “a bit of a weight problem.” 😉
Ox does not take criticism of his food well…not even a snippet of dissatisfaction. He’ll often come out from the kitchen and randomly put his hulking arms around a pirate diner and bellow, “Absolutely delicious, right…right?!” Answer incorrectly and you’ll be swimming with the fishes! And that oven mitt…we can’t even.
Until next time!
