Train Tuesday hovering along and expanding on previous car themes is an exciting milestone, to say the least! Let’s explore a perfect, recently completed example.
With the completion of our core train themes (passenger, cargo, flatbeds, etc.), we can now add multiple Hovertrain cars in the same genre. For example, if we’re building an industrial encounter, we can add a couple of the same types of connecting cars, which will undoubtedly lead to more engaging and impactful DnD encounters.
So, today’s focus is on liquids and the role they can play with our realm-changing Hovertrain technology. Thankfully, we’ve already got a couple of fully painted industrial cargo cars ready to go for the long liquid haul, including:
Plus, we already found this awesome Reddit 1000 Liquids thread, a lifesaver for DMs looking to get those creative juices going (pun intended).
Our two primary train tiles, developed by master maker Aether Studios, come from the marvelous Industrial Yardworks set. We built this new industrial chemical car using the “Big Chem Tank Storage Car” and “Small Chem Tanks Storage Car” FDM tiles. We always include two empty tiles so our miniatures have a little more room to navigate the playable Hovertrain car.
Here’s a nice overhead shot to get a good feel for the play space and where you could drop in some miniatures and scatter terrain. Copper felt like the perfect tank color choice…sorta that rustic, from-scratch microbrewery vibe. It’s not like the Sword Coast is filled with gigantic corporations. More so, there are pockets of all these different local family and clan operations.
Regarding the exterior of this freshly minted Hovertrain car, we stayed true to our industrial theme by using darker green accents and various metal touches common in our other cargo-style cars. We’re learning so much from each completed Forgotten Rails 3D print, and this one really jived well with us. Besides, it’s not how you start; it’s how you finish, right?!
For the doors, we utilized two different types: the front-loading and wider industrial door (a favorite of ours) and two metal end cap doors for miniatures to move from one Hovertrain car to the next.
DM Ben was pondering a couple of holding tank liquids here and likes the following:
That’s a pretty good starting list to cover a myriad of Hovertrain one-shots.
Until next time!
