Train Tuesday Part 135: Creative Cannons

Greetings, fellow rail riders! We’ve got a TTRPG 3D print of the most freakish kind today, because if you’ve got Hovertrains in your life, the daily arcane insanity is real. Let’s go!

Here at 3DRPG Studios, we love the wild and wacky. Those unique 3D prints that give the players double-takes at the game table always crack us up. DM Ben always wants a memorable DnD sesh, and we think today’s featured STL will certainly help in that regard.

A top-notch featured creator here on our little ol’ DnD blog is the marvelous mz4250. The dude just has “the it.” While he’s immensely kind by offering his insane library for free, you can get a Patreon membership for a mere $5 a month, and that’s an absolute steal with a 7,000+ library of work. He also takes requests for creative inspiration, and his DnD community knows great 3D prints. Case in point with this Walking Cannon, which we sent to our printer nearly instantly at first sight.

Here’s the final version in all its boomer glory. We just loved how this one turned out. Your cannon with a pulse couldn’t have been easier to paint, too.

• Prime Flat Black | Slapchop Base.
• Cannon P1: Layer ASP Enchanted Steel.
• Cannon P2: Drybrush FAN Rough Iron.
• Cannon P3: Paint the end knob Matt Black.
• Flame P1: Layer with white (to make the flames pop).
• Flame P2: ASP Zealot Yellow.
• Flame P3: GSW Gloss Varnish.
• Flame P4: Edge with ASP Blood Red & Citadel Contrast Bad Moon Yellow.
• Legs: ASP Barbarian Flesh + Soft Wash.
• Boots: Citadel Contrast Snakebite Leather.

We add a little Army Painter Black Ballast flock for that gun powdery vibe.

DM Ben has some thoughts for integrating these miniatures into The Forgotten Rails campaign setting. His initial thought is these will be the personal Hovertrain car bodyguards of Leland Farce, the brilliant wizard responsible for creating Corederite (which provides the arcane might to power our trains). He is one of the most guarded, esteemed dignitaries in all of Waterdeep, but he creates much of his own protection. Wizards are naturally paranoid by nature.

This is an overhead shot of one of our VIP Hovertrain cars, which Farce uses whenever he has to travel on one of his mechanical, floating giants. Our new Walking Cannons fit perfectly inside. These moving big guns ensure no one can approach and try to enter from the outside. Hovertrain pirates certainly wouldn’t expect to see these things poking out the windows.

We love the reusability of our newest DnD 3D prints here. Besides our Hovertrains, you could place these on a pirate ship or as defense guns for forts or bad guy hideouts. The creative possibilities are endless.
