We’ve got yet another fully completed Hovertrain car to show off on this fine weekly edition of Train Tuesday! Grab a few bails of hey, and let’s get our (mostly) four-legged friends to their next destination safe and sound!
In some of our other daily DnD blog posts, we’ve teased a few of this charming train car’s potential passengers, including a traditional heifer, some rare tigers, a bonkers multiheaded goose, a snarling Squig, and even a walking shark! We think this is where our Collector series can really take some fun twists and turns, too!
Now, all our curious creatures needed was a speedy mode of transportation! Problem solved, thanks to the talented team at Aether Studios. This Livestock car comes from their must-print Onasan Line series.
If you’ve been following our beloved Forgotten Rails series, you know our car assemblies typically include two detail and two open tiles. We want to ensure we have some space for our miniatures and scatter terrain. Be careful here, as you need to ensure your exterior designs sync up. In this case, we have the traditional flat panels on one side and the checkered air holes on the opposite Livestock exterior side. Everything meshes beautifully.
This photo better highlights what we mean regarding the interior spacing. See how a nice “walking lane” exists for our players to move throughout the car? We wanted to ensure there was adequate space during gameplay. With six adventurers in our group, our tiles can fill up quickly.
Next, let’s take a closer look at the Livestock train car interior with some actual “passengers.” You get two versions of the Hovertrain car: a single-wide and two-wide area to store your living cargo. Pro tip: just go with the two-wides as the other version is just a bit too snug to place a single d20-square-width miniature (and become a bit unplayable). We could only fit our baseless STL Miniatures cow in a stall, while our clear-based spotted has to be a roamer.
See how this Livestock train car comes to life once you drop down a few DnD miniatures? Frickin’ fantastic!
In hindsight, we probably should have used one of these doublewide, side-entry versions instead of utilizing single-wide doors on each end of the train car. It’s no big whoop, though. Part of the fun of our 3D-printing hobby is learning and experimenting with our models. We can easily print up a secondary train car and use this one for narrower beasts.
For these metal doors, we chose a darker steel color. That dark grey goes perfectly with our dark red.
Pretty fun, right guys?! The game hooks and one-shots are nearly endless here. We strive to keep adding new content ideas for all our Hovertrain cars to ensure you have the best time at the table with all your family and friends.
Until next time!
