Our latest installment of WIP Wednesday takes a look at how our banged-up boat by Cast n Play is coming along. We just need to get some color on those last few bits.
Our dinged dingy (e.g. “boat”) comes from the fab Cast n Play’s Interiors II Pirate Ship Set. The boat printed like a champ in resin on our Mars Pro 3.
Right now our beloved boat has got the super simple wood paint scheme (Army Speedpaint Dark Wood base + Vallejo Ocre Brown drybrush). For the oar, we just repeated the Ocre Brown and slipped a little Armyspeed Metallic Broadsword Silver on it.
Now what about all these cool barnacles, sticky coral-ish stuff, and even a starfish?! We need some purdy ocean colors to bring this piece to life! This one took some thinkin’ and google-ing.
A web search got our paintbrush a stirrin’ as sample imagery was telling us to try colors like maybe a light tan, a little gray, some off-white and a lil’ brown wash. For the starfish, a shade of orange and/or pink should do the trick.
When we’re not utilizing our resident painter’s brilliant skills out of state and decide to tackle a 3D printed piece ourselves, we always look to Dana Howl and her amazing Army Speedpaints and Citadel Contrast paints online guide. We’re leaning towards Skeleton Horde (Citadel Contrast) for the barnacles and Purple Alchemy (AP Speedpaints) for the starfish…but we might call a late audible and try Magos Purple (Citadel Contrast).
Looking forward to showing you guys the final piece soon though!
