We have several intriguing ongoing production notes for our wonderful Forgotten Rails campaign setting. However, they’re quick-hit blurbs rather than full-fledged DnD articles. Still, we think you’ll find them interesting, especially as they evolve into completed pieces in the coming months.
We would equate these quick-hit notes to how the sausage is made. It can be fun to see how we’re converting our railroad ideas into actual 3D-printed miniatures and scatter terrain and what that journey entails, right?
Some of the items here will just be farther along than others because sometimes it’s just a matter of being in the right creative headspace or having enough time on the weekend to work on some new pieces.
First, we knew we needed an NPC to drive each of The Forgotten Rails’ roaring engines, so we started sifting through our MyMiniFactory STL library and boxes of printed pieces. That’s where we spotted this steampunk miniature by EC3D Designs – he’s a free download for their upcoming Ghost City Kickstarter.
Omin Dran likes to dress up some of the constructs so that citizens don’t freak out (as much) that androids are all around them. So, this STL will paint up well — light arcane blue on his goggles, and then we’ll probably make his hair an Army Painter metallic gold. Our resin print for this guy turned out, but we’re chomping at the bit for that Kickstarter to go live!
Next, we’ve been brainstorming some future mining scenarios for The Forgotten Rails fuel source and want to introduce a few Mad Max-style vehicles to liven up the gameboard. Two of our favs are the CNSC and the Killdozer by MistFactor. What’s not to love here?! Critical Role’s Crawler creations inspired this story idea!
Even better, we found a variation of our secondary Movers miniature construct by KnightFallStudios. So, our first one was more about transporting the Corederite rocks, and this other free version can be more about drilling the rock out of the mountainside. Each STL should complement the other quite well.
We’ve downloaded (for free) another protector construct and a secondary library robot by the brilliant mz4250. The first one will be a royal guard for the 3M founders, while the second Pixar-esque one will perform clerical duties for the rail line.
Lastly, we recently painted and based the “Eye-baller” Construct we previewed last week. We purchased these slick Spiderball Clockwork robots from Mechatronist for a mere $2.33. This monitoring STL comes in both a resting and deployed version (e.g., with legs). We’ll share its paint scheme this Friday in Coloring Constructs P3. 🙂
Until next time!
