This was a tricky entry to write up today, as we keep flip-flopping on this featured DnD miniature’s backstory. Perhaps you can advise us on which is best for us.
We have two avenues for our favorite new robotic STL: he becomes the bodyguard for Waterdeep’s biggest name…or, it ultimately takes over its circuitry and begins an AI rebellion. This could also be a combo-storyline. Hmmmmm.
Our mighty mech 3D-print comes courtesy of STL Miniatures and their brilliant Frost 3 Kickstarter. The miniatures from this release are just so darn good. We’ve printed a ton of them so far on our Elegoo Mars 4 and are stoked to introduce more of them in future one-shots and new NPC profiles.
No microscopic eyeballs here, so DM Ben stepped up to the painting plate. He was inspired by our favorite YouTube Painter, Miniature Hobbyist. He was coloring some WarMachine figs in one of his fab step-by-step tutorials and shared this killer paint combination…but more on that later.
There are some sick details on this TTRPG STL. The flowing cape, the split shield, and all those bolted metal plates! You can sense this one losing control and obliterating everyone and everything around it. Tread carefully, fellas. This tin can knows no mercy.
Now, longtime readers probably recall that we’ve made security details for all three founding Hovertrain fathers:
Everyone has a bodyguard, but the big fella, so it’s only natural that Omin would demand one too!
So, how will DM Ben integrate this mighty Construct into our campaigns? We like the idea of this Bolt Brute initially being gifted by 3M (with independent verification by Tink Urbelle). Its armor is especially fierce – think K-2SO-imperial-security-droid-tough and by far the most armored Construct (currently) in the Realm.
Then, at some point, we think we’ll shift the story on this powerful bodyguard and have him become the leader of the droid resistance who demands they make their own choices and no longer serve living beings 24/7. A malfunction or freak energy overload causes him to break away and become a hunted fugitive and rebellion leader. #HeckYeah
Let’s finish this DnD blog post off with DM Ben’s paint steps with a special nod to Miniature Hobbyist for the core armor tint.
The key, though, is putting on that Aztec Gold and then following up with that darker Earthshade wash. That combo creates a cool, greenish-yellow tint, and we just love it!
Until next time!
