Let’s take a stroll down Scatter Lane Trail and see what new 3D prints we can find to elevate our DnD games. We absolutely adore this terrain type, and we’re turning to one of our hobby’s best creators to get the job done.

Sometimes, all you need to create the proper mood in a TTRPG encounter is to find the proper-fitting floor and scatter terrain pieces. Not every single scenario is a big boss showdown, but at the same time, you still want to immerse your players in the game as much as possible. If they can see themselves there, everyone will have a better time.

Beloved STL sorcerer, Cast n Play, is an industry leader with countless must-have releases. We always eagerly anticipate their next set announcements at the end of each month. They’re so frickin’ good at what they do that they even created a second subscription called Terrain Essentials, so be sure to check them out if you haven’t already.
Today’s first featured 3D print is from Cast n Play’s insane Terrain Essentials II Interior Kickstarter (from 2022). Like, if you don’t own that one, it’s a complete no-brainer to still do a late pledge. Today, we’re sharing some building posts from their bountiful Barn Set.

DM Ben painted these up as our favorite wood color library keeps getting bigger and bigger. If you have solid wood (and stone/rock) color scheme options, you can make a tremendous amount of scatter terrain to your liking…even as a novice painter.
Here were the simple paint steps:
We also added a mini base to the bottom of each wooden post for a little more stability. No one on the 3DRPG team likes sanding down resin 3D prints, as the dust is super toxic.

The one bummer of resin scatter terrain is that it often isn’t perfectly flat, especially if you have to store some of the final pieces in your garage. That added base we put on the bottom definitely helps; still, you can see the one on the left tilts a little. No big deal. We think that quirkiness fits medieval building codes. 😉
Also, in terms of layout, we always print four posts of the same type, so it’s natural to see them equally spaced within the room you’re building for the encounter. You can get creative with them, too, and make some fun arch openings like in the example above.

Lastly, we have one additional scatter piece. It’s another improvised outdoor lamp post. We’re nearly positive this is an older Cast n Play piece as well, but it’s a bit too generic for Google Image searches, so finding the exact set this scatter terrain piece is from was tricky. If our sourcing web search takes more than an hour, we call it a day.
We especially like this TTRPG 3D print because of its twisting trunk and all those absolutely adorable little mushrooms. We’re going to include this fresh new scatter piece in our The Bramble Bush Boarding House, run by Hovertrain Hostel owner, Briar Thorne.
Until next time!
