Tomb Thursday P49: All in the Family

Greetings, fellow sand sifters! What a fast week this has been, as we’re already on a new edition of Tomb Thursday. We’ve got several desert miniatures to share with you today, so let’s get to it!

We’re in a miniatures mood again, so today is all about dropping some NPCs and monsters on our beloved Egyptian gameboard. We’ve got a reasonable amount of Aether Studios terrain tiles 3D-printed and even painted. However, DM Ben can’t build new encounters without minis, right?!

We’ve 3D-printed a nice collection of monsters so far, with absolute gems such as our Gladiator warriors or Sobek soldiers. Dungeon masters don’t want every single encounter to be combat, though. You need some NPCs in there for a change of pace and for things like engaging skill challenges. Tombs are maddening mazes, filled with dead ends and confusing passageways. DM Ben thought it would be fun to have an oddball creature blocking the adventurers’ path, where only answering a riddle would allow them to move forward.

Enter one of our favorite Creator finds of 2026, Mr. Toadstool Weaver. He’s got all the STL skillz to pay the bills, baby. If you’re a DnD gamer and haven’t checked out his fantastic library, you’re simply doing it wrong. Today’s wicked 3D print is dubbed “Brothers,” and it’s so darn fun. This file is a free download, but of course, tips are encouraged.

DM Ben had some really solid luck testing out new skin tones lately, so he was down with painting this one up for the good of the game.

• Base Layer P1: GSW Nudeskin Dipping Ink.
• Base Layer P2: Drybrush GSW Seraphim Flesh Dipping Ink.
• Base Layer P3: Drybrush FAN Ruby Skin.
• Wash: WAR Flesh Wash.
• Face Edging: GSW Majin Pink.
• Teeth/Nails: GSW Skull Linen Dipping Ink.
• Ribs: Citadel Contrast Skeleton Horde.

DM Ben did some edging here and there with both GSW Nudeskin and FAN Ruby Skin. In those Base Layer paint steps, he just kept re-hitting the model until he got the skin tone he was shooting for.

3D printing is an amazing hobby. Hard stop. No debate when it comes to our beloved “replicator” machines. However, that doesn’t mean you should turn your back entirely on your roots and all those amazing prepainted miniatures out there. If you see a great mini by WotC or Pathfinder at a reasonable price, you should absolutely pick a few up.

Case in point, we had to restock some of our favorite paints and figured why not add a few minis to that order for some free shipping from Miniature Market. So, we picked up this Demoniac Gnoll from Monster Manual Collection 1 and this Jackalwere from Monster Menagerie Revisited. Both were common mins and $5 or less. They’re perfect for our mysterious tomb Beneath the Sands.
