Our work campaign huddles up once a month as soon as the quittin’ time whistle blares. We then converge in one of the larger offices with a conference table and gleefully drop some dice. Back by popular demand, DM Ben shares this week’s game plan.
Surely, some of you giggled upon hearing our dungeon master boasting about “a plan” because, as we all know, things rarely go the way the DM expects. Still, an outline of the potential events really saves DM Ben a ton of time looking stuff up. Plus, we think you might appreciate seeing how all our ongoing weekday posts sorta fall together in place.
First, let’s explain where the group left off. They’ve successfully rooted the evil Night Hag from her spooky cabin in The High Forest. She hasn’t been eliminated, but her operation has been compromised, and the party has put her back on her heels. Omin Dran offered the deed to her property (aka a Bastion) if the group was successful. This victory now sets off a whole new series of events (and home-brewed content).
DM Ben closed out December’s last session by describing a charging object racing toward their cabin in the woods. He explained that it appeared to be some sort of animal, with an odd figure awkwardly bouncing from side to side as the pair came into frame.
We’re referring to their first Construct interaction as Omin Dran has gifted them a Documancy Satchel and an early prototype mechanical named TK421 (aka Tech). He will explain how he has been assigned to be their Estate Manager and assist the group at every turn.
The group just eliminated the final Fire Elementals from the backyard hedge maze, so DM Ben will give them a roll from the Nord Games “Alchemy, Crafting & Enchanting” PDF paired with the “Foraging, Harvesting & Natural Discovery” hardcover book. Super fun.
From here, the players will do one of two things: (1) rush back to town to cash in on their child rescue requests for Edwin McHook and Krufer Promentory. Besides being a master angler, McHook is also a brilliant carpenter and will add one new room to their new HQ for free. Krufer, the local blacksmith, will give our party Dwarf his first anvil.
The downside of their return to town is that they risk Wilderness Trek Wandering Monster rolls and another encounter with Terry the Troll to pass over the main bridge to Waterdeep. Things DM Ben is prepared for on paper, but table space will require some finagling since he hopes they will explore the underground caverns below the cabin.Â
Still, while in town, they can visit M. Knight Holymon for a curse removal assist, restock on gear, and spend a night at Charlotte’s Web tavern for some high-stakes games and debauchery.
Let’s assume the group can’t resist exploring the caverns. We’ve worked hard to build that gameboard out for the past two weeks and love the results! Please disregard those little pieces of paper — they were just helpful reference notes as we moved our Dwarven Forge Cavern tiles around.
There’s so much to do and explore:
We’re super excited to showcase these new rooms & encounters in the coming weeks, so stay tuned on those areas.
Savvy 3D Print folk will recognize several Milestone Heroes tiles intermixed here as well. We printed a bunch of their half-height hallway Cavern pieces (since they’re always needed in high quantities) and their Village tiles.
DM Ben is expecting their underground exploration to sorta go like this:
The team at 3DRPG Studios loves a good Crime Documentary series, and what do all serial killers have in common? They love to keep trophies. Our Night Hag was doing the same, and these two 3D-printed scatter terrain pieces by STL Miniatures and Cast n Play fit in perfectly. It should really creap the players out (and DM Ben will even ask them to describe some of the trinkets).
DM Ben has a couple of traps planned as well.
The Fire Trap triggers outside the jail cell, and players will be drawn to this area by a very faint tapping sound on metal bars (from the twins). One of the keys from upstairs can disable it. The spike trap pressure plates (controlled by hidden levers) are outside the Mirror room and the Corederite Alchemy room.
Lastly, more teasers for The Forgotten Rails are also starting to appear. They will find their first Corederite rock (in the caverns) and an abandoned, decaying Construct.
Let the games begin…and until next time!
