Let’s hop right back into our 3D-printed Wilderness Trek Wandering Monster table with another hostile entry! Little Orphan Annie wouldn’t stand a chance against these guys! We’re even picking the same sa-weet STL maker.
We’re sort of cheating here by doing two unfriendly outdoor entries back-to-back, but when perusing the display cases, these raging reptiles just spoke to us. And you always go with your gut, right?!
Brite Minis has really been on point with its supportless offerings, and these scaled crawlers came off the build plate like butta. You can 3D-print a whole clan of these greenies in a snap. You also get two different poses: the “Let’s Be Friends” and the “You’re What’s for Dinner” stances.
Resident painter Kimmy Utah is given complete artistic freedom 99.5% of the time as we never like to stifle her creativity. These lizards were completely on point and will be quite the surprise guest during the party’s next long rest.
So let’s talk stats here. D&D Beyond has a couple of options:
Three of these tongue-mongers are from D&D Beyond, and the beloved Thunder Lizard is by TheDarklingNinja on Reddit. What to choose, what to choose.
A few ways to go here based on the DM’s mood. If you want a pack of these raging reptiles to attempt to swarm the camp, then the Giant Lizard is a solid pick. If you want the buddy system, the Subterranean Lizards work well. If you want to really go nuts, try the Thunder Lizard and its Booming Scales (1d8 within 30 ft after any hit) and Sonic Burst (DC 13 Con | 3d8 damage) abilities.
We love unique abilities and group effects that really force the group to stop and reshape their combat tactics. For example, taking 1d8 on any hit (with no save) really forces the melee fighters to re-think their next move.
In terms of tactics, this encounter will be ambush-style thanks to the monster’s high perception, 40-ft speed, and dark vision/blindsight abilities. Our leapin’ lizards are simply hungry and the adventurers simply gave away their position.
Now, all we need to do is, once again, update our Wilderness Trek Wandering Monster Table!
