Today’s 3D-printed DnD Wandering Monster post is of the most slippery kind! Slither this way to learn more.
We wanted something that could slither in under a “secured” doorway while respecting some of the more classic monster genres. So you guessed it – we picked snakes!
We’re beginning to amass a collection of STLs here at 3DRPG Studios, so we have a rule here that if it takes more than one hour to try and identify the maker of a print, we punt and hope that a loyal reader will help us out on our Facebook or Instagram channels. We could have sworn this was Brite Minis or EC3D Designs, but we just can’t say for certain. 🙁
Anyway, here’s our nifty, cavernous snake wanderer! The wonderfully talented Kimmy Utah painted this slimy biter, and we just adore its greenish color scheme. We especially like how it takes up a single d20 square (to help sell how he might constrict his body and slip under a dungeon doorframe).
You certainly could do a swarm of snakes or even a snake floor trap. We especially dig this one from Crippled God Foundry’s Dungeon of Despair Kickstarter. We haven’t yet painted that slithering pile of “why did it have to be snakes?”. Also, Wizards of the Coast has all sorts of prepainted snake piles like this Snake Swarm from the Dangerous Delves set. After all, this is a 3D-printed Wandering Monster list, and we needed to stay true to our theme.
This Wandering Monster Dungeon Delve encounter will be especially spooky because our serpent is so stealthy. A bored watch member might not see him enter their room before it’s too late. It won’t be a high perception check (DC 12), but the player must do an initial roll.
Regarding stats, we’re passing the usual D&D 5e Giant Poisonous Snake as it’s too wimpy (AC 14, HP 11) and instead going with this cool home-brewed Reddit Ambush Snake by WanderWarlock.
We’re only using its Earth Glide ability, so this Viper can initially reach the adventurers behind closed doors. Its burrowing ability would also explain the miniature’s horns that temporarily extrude whenever it needs to move underground.
Now, all that’s left to do is update our table!
