Our royal tax collector needs the proper mode of transportation if he’s going to do his duties, right?! Thankfully, 3DRPG found the perfect print by Infinite Dimensions Games and got a wicked good paint job by Laughing Bear Games! Let’s trot ahead.
Arkansas Adam at Laughing Bear Games has done numerous 3D-printed miniature paint jobs for us, but we’re really putting his brush through the strokes with these scatter terrain pieces. Just a bunch of novice painters here at 3DRPG Studios, we marvel at his skills and learn a ton when we get our gamer hands on his work.
Our wonderous model is by building-maker extraordinaire Infinite Dimension Games. Their affordable monthly MMF subscription is a no-brainer, and we love it when they release other TTRPG scatter terrain pieces like this gorgeous tax wagon.
Even better, this STL came pre-supported as a single piece (a rarity in the wagon-maker world), so it printed beautifully on our Prusa FDM printer. We deplore gluing pieces together and often immediately bypass those bumbling prints. Thankfully, more makers like Cast n Play and Infinite Dimensions are starting to release single-piece prints for their wagon offerings, so let’s pray this trend continues.
Painting scatter terrain is no easy feat. We always want our TTRPG 3D-printed pieces to look their best, but one has to be realistic regarding time spent. Otherwise, our pile of shame will topple over and crush us all! So, imagine our expressions when we ripped open our postal package from Laughing Bear Games and pulled out this marvel.
It’s so cool to see how the pros approach and execute a piece. Rather than spend countless hours adding color to every intricate detail, Arkansas Adam utilized some brilliant shading effects and kept it simple (stupid). And we just love it!! We plan on emulating his techniques on some of our backlogged 3D prints, especially in our ongoing hovertrain series.
Our images simply don’t do the Tax Wagon justice, especially with the horses! They’re just beautiful on their road-worn base. And the different shading effects really grab hold of the model’s details.
Now, the question is, how might we incorporate our rolling taxation on the countryside’s pleb population? Well, you might recall an early post in which we incorporated a randomized scenario using the excellent Loke Battlemats’ The Long Road RPG Toolbox set. Using our freshly painted tax wagon in an escort role would make for a rousing one-shot encounter.
With his fortified wagon and trusty steeds, a corrupt tax collector also makes a great villain to add to your campaign, leaving a memorable impression on your players. A Robinhood-style steal from the rich to give to the poor would be a fun hair-raising heist one-shot possibility.
What great fun! You had us at (one-piece print) wagons, Infinite Dimensions Games…you had us at wagons! #MorePlease 😉
And once again, a huge thanks to Arkansas Adam for his fantastic paint jobs!! We’re really jazzed to share more of his excellent works in future posts. Be sure to visit his Instagram, Facebook, and Etsy (where you can request a custom quote for some paint jobs on your own pile of shame).
Until next time!
