We’re often asked how do we determine what specific 3D DnD Print to reveal. Welp, often there’s really no rhyme or reason to our daily week-day reveals. We simply look at all our display cases and grab the one that speaks to us on this particular day.
So we’ve gone right back to the STL Miniatures well today with a scatter piece from their fun Fish Vendor Set. Our scaley pick makes sense here because that RPG sea just calls us back time and time again. 😉
Pardon the pun but we were instantly hooked on printing this particular pointer! Behold the fish sign! You’ve got your big fish, your signpost, your bobber & rope – all just nestled into a seaside set of rocks. It’s perfect!
Now you’ll notice that our resident painter, Kimmy Utah, did a bit of a scribble on the sign text but that was indeed an intentional stroke of her brush. Generic touches on your scatter terrain are the best long-term moves here.
3DRPGÂ has made signs in the past with specific names but that preciseness backs us into an unwanted corner in terms of reusing our signage scatter. Adventurers shouldn’t expect to see the same storefront names in every town! It’s not like they’re franchised shops for goodness sake!
Meaning, in one town stop, your fish market matron might be called “Hook, Line and Sinker” but in the next town, you might need to pop into “Tackle Traders!” So different sign details matter just as much as choosing names, right?!
Now, do you immediately need to print every piece from STL Miniatures Fish Vendor Set? Nah…no need to panic here. If you’re in a scatter terrain print-and-paint-bind, just start with a “less is more” approach.
For example, when your group asks what cool shops are in town, simply grab this fishy wishy sign and place it on your gameboard. Then if they decide to go into “Down by the River,” then you place a corresponding mini next to it. Poof – your shop just came to life (until you get a chance to print more of this set)!
So imagine a gameboard filled with different shop markers! DM Ben says you’ll be amazed at the difference in gameplay. And it’s not as much “work” as you think. Start with a couple of unique signs and then grow your collection as time permits. Trust us – it’s so darn fun!
