Greetings, sand sifters. Let’s shake out another dandy edition of Tomb Thursday…if you dare. This time we’ve got some Egyptian-style foes that are sure to raise a few arm hairs while exploring your latest resting place.

You can never really have too many miniatures when you begin building out a brand new game environment. Not to mention, we love, love 3D-printing ’em. Painting all those tiny model elements may not always be fun, but reveling in the final product certainly makes all that sweat equity worth it.

We’ll start with a beloved creator here at 3DRPG, the mighty Schlossbauer and his amazing army of free 3D-print STLs. We’ll often rescan his ongoing library just to remind us of what fabulous find we missed originally. He made this mythological warrior, Mazura, from something called The Adventure of Link.
Since Egyptian lore is filled with all sorts of crazy animal god combos, it seemed only natural that we 3D print a monster squad of these guys to patrol all those musty tomb hallways.

DM Ben found some hella courage and decided to try and paint these heavy mace wielders up himself because Kimmy Utah is drowning in a fierce backlog right now. Plus, it’s good for a novice painter to push himself.
We did the base in our usual core desert paint scheme, then applied a light sand flock over some of it.

We wanted the cape to be Roman-esque and have that classic red look. However, these terrible tomb fighters are in the trenches, so they gotta be filthy. After all, guarding a Pharaoh’s treasure for the afterlife is dangerous, messy work. We felt that just using FAN Pure Red made the tattered cloak a bit too bright, so by adding that Citadel Contrast Red and a wash to it, the cloak looked more “lived in.”

You’ll notice here that one of our half-horse fighters seems to have lost part of his weapon. 3D print vets know that it’s somewhat common for a fragile piece to snap while removing supports post-print. We don’t like wasting resin, so if a mighty mace becomes a thumping club, that’s fine by us. Besides, DM Ben will always start a new paint job on one of these Island of Misfit Toys in case he really chooses poorly on a paint pot pick.

Next up, we tap into an ol’ faithful set for this desert campaign, Empire of Scorching Sands by EC3D Designs. There’s something extremely satisfying about going through a large Kickstarter and slowly bringing nearly every DnD STL to life. That’s certainly the case when it comes to their silly good collections of miniatures here. This creepy Beetle Swarm was a must-addition. You practically feel them slipping through those hairline cracks in the tomb walls.

Resident Painter Kimmy Utah was actually able to color this TTRPG monster swarm up for us many desert moons ago. We’re just now finding the right opportunity to share these creepy crawlies with you. This mini takes up 2×2 d20 squares, but we’re zoomed in on our photo here so our Prusa FDM layer lines are rather obvious (as we hadn’t learned about that Adaptive Layer slicing setting way back then). Nothing to fret about using the Arm’s Length rule, though. This deadly miniature gives us those epic 1999 Mummy movie vibes.
So there ya have it! Two more Egyptian-style STLs for that mysterious tomb beneath the sands! Until next time!
