Previously, on Train Tuesday, we shared the security forces for The Forgotten Rails, but let’s switch gears and introduce the arcane androids dedicated to a life of service for the hovertrain line.
The railway’s founders are extremely protective (and paranoid) of their marvel invention, so living participants are extremely limited per the official Hovertrain Charter agreement.
Still, The Forgotten Rails is a massive, ongoing operation, and with that, numerous Constructs have been built to serve the greater good. Let’s take a closer look at some of our current 3D-printed miniatures (with paint guides coming on WIP Wednesday).
Disclaimer: DM Ben, a novice painter, took a stab at coloring these gearheads, so go easy on him. 😉
Let’s start with DM Ben’s favorites: The Lifters. Train cargo is typically anything but light, and there’s usually a lot of it. So, the big fella was built to load/unload cargo cars while the smaller guy lifts smaller packages and luggage for passengers. Side note: those aren’t weapons on the slimmer construct – they’re actually floodlights. 😉
Teased last week, these free super STLs are by mz4250 and Captain Fathom.
Next up comes the Detection Dawgs. Typically accompanied by a Constable Construct, these cuddly machines have keen sensors that can “sniff” out explosives, illegal contraband, fleeing criminals, lost children, etc.
This free STL is the work of Taylor-Mouse.
Once a Detection Dog (or fellow security construct) identifies the specific danger, a Construct Officer may call upon a Cleaner to eradicate the specific threat. That’s a nice way of saying this particular Construct is sent in to clear the room by activating a self-destructing fireball (12d6+5). Sometimes, it will be on a delay timer (hence the windup gear).
This adorable mechanical glides on the floor like a Roomba and is the work of Schlossbauer.
Next is our personal attendant construct: the Clockwork Butler. It ensures traveling guests are properly serviced and holds a very high intelligence because, ya know, passengers can be…a handful.
This STL is by EC3D Designs and comes from their amazing Bolts and Brimstone Kickstarter (a must-own).
Lastly, there’s one of the rare non-robotic workers on The Forgotten Rails: The Fixers. It turns out not all Orcs are stone-cold killers. There are a select few who simply want to lead a quiet life and are obsessed with tools and tinkering. Waterdeep’s Omin Dran struck a deal with this gearhead group — an all-expenses-paid life in exchange for their brilliant mechanical minds and service.
These Orc Laborer miniatures remind us of the Ugnaughts from Star Wars. This STL is also by EC3D Designs and from the Bolts and Brimstone Kickstarter.
We also need to give a tip of the conductor’s cap to the Aether Studios team for their amazing support and collaboration. Their discord is just a delight, and they’re on the cusp of releasing several new Hovertrain sets! So, there’s never been a better time to join their monthly Patreon (bursting in value). Plus, the sooner you become a member, the sooner you can print along with us and build your own Forgotten Rails!
So you can see The Forgotten Rails is starting to really take shape! We’re continuing to print and assemble the actual hovertrain cars behind the scenes and simultaneously creating our starting “cast of characters” to inject some “life” into this historic railway line. Super pleased with our progress and what’s on deck for thee!
Next up, we’ll share the specific paints and steps for all the service constructs from today’s DnD post!
