Train Tuesday Part 136: The Resistance

Greetings, fellow Hover heads! Another Train Tuesday has pulled into the bustling station with some more miniatures and scatter terrain to populate our very own steampunk setting. Let’s go!

DM Ben always wants to add some more NPCs and sub-storylines to The Forgotten Rails. Like, seriously, can a dungeon master ever have enough options when it comes to story expansion? He hadn’t really thought about today’s story arc until a certain freshly painted miniature did all the heavy inspirational lifting for him. 3D printing with a purpose is definitely the most economical route, but sometimes you print first and create characters later.

Movies are a huge source of creative energy here at 3DRPG Studios. How can you not have an affinity for Constructs with so many absolute classics shaping our gamer minds since our childhood? Two movies that come to mind in relation to our featured 3D print are I, Robot and Star Wars: Rogue One. Sonny and Saw Gerrera are just fun characters that quickly charmed our gear-turning hearts.

We love the idea of a Construct suddenly finding thoughts of its own or a half-man, half-machine rising up to lead a new resistance movement! We’re going to call him Ignis Allistare, with much, much more of him to come in future weekly posts.

The 3D-printed miniature we settled on is this Amputee Traveler by EC3D Designs. This rumbling gearhead is from their awesome Ghost City Kickstarter. This STL is just bursting with details, and DM Ben thinks he can play the lead role of the good-guy mechs.

We just got a new batch of freshly painted miniatures and scatter terrain from resident painter Kimmy Utah, and this DnD print nearly lept out of the box. We love everything about this robotic wonder and think he will be an instant hit with our adventuring crew. The breathing hose and facemask are especially amazing.

Next up, we have this quaint cart by STL Miniatures. This rolling supply bin is from their Fantasy Props 2 Market Set Kickstarter. It’s just the right size at 2×2 d20 squares, which is especially handy for certain pieces of TTRPG scatter terrain if gameboard play space is at a premium.

Sunrise Sven was the brush man on this one, and we think he did a swell job. We love his color choices. Now, what does a small cart have to do with a mighty Hovertrain, you ask? Well, DM Ben thinks travelers moving across the Realm will be taking a lot of their belongings with them on their new destination train ride. Hence, it would be reasonable for some one-way travelers to take key items with them, including the cart itself. Besides, this gives the DM more item and character smuggling hiding places.
