Waterdeep’s turbulent economy thrives on stuff breaking…a lot. Unexpected malfunctions are big business, and our Hovertrains are no stranger to this darn downtime. They need a lot of help to get them back in service stat!
Building The Forgotten Rails transportation empire was just half the battle. Once their mighty metal monstrosities went into service, it didn’t take long for these new cra-cra contraptions to start breaking down. The 3M founders called upon Waterdeep’s Gnome Tinkerer Guild and their vast ingenuity to solve this conundrum. They needed a service device to work on a train car’s banged-up undercarriages and bulky engines.
Hovering a mere ten feet off the ground, our Hovertrains can really take a beating. So, when the test flights started making inevitable and undesirable noises, the railway needed a way to suspend them in mid-air while they worked out the kinks and clunks.
Only one non-living group is allowed to work on our beloved trains: a specific set of hand-selected Orcs known as The Fixers. These gearheads supervise and work with a select class of restoration constructs to get everything back into service as fast as possible.
The 3DRPG team aims to 3D-print a variety of industrial workshop pieces to create a fresh range of DnD Hovertrain one-shot encounters. Thankfully, the wicked good team over at EC3D Designs published a fantastic sci-fi Novus Landing Kickstarter that offers all sorts of gnome-tinkerer-style contraptions!
Today’s featured print is an awesome Landing Pad that has a Star Wars Cloud City vibe written all over it! This manufacturing-like scatter terrain piece 3D-printed beautifully on our Prusa MK4. It’s perfect!
DM Ben grabbed a paintbrush and colored this one. He used a lot of Army Painter Fanatic and Speedpaint metallics to try to bring this new scatter terrain to life. Scraps, scratches, dirt, and grime are an ongoing theme for The Forgotten Rails. Omin Dran wants those Hovertrains running 24/7…time is gold! Work now, clean later!
Hovertrains aren’t the only things that break down here in Waterdeep! Readers have started to see even more gnome tinkerer contraptions make their mech debuts recently, and of course, those un-sanctioned but necessary support vehicles go kerplunk too!
The 3DRPG team is so jazzed to 3D-print all sorts of new mechanized hoverers, so that The Forgotten Rails infrastructure is always running on all cylinders (pun intended)!
Until next time!
