With all these newfound contraptions popping up all over Waterdeep, we wanted to add a new NPC shop where our players can go if they’re lucky enough to acquire one of these hovering machines (by any means possible).
When it comes to moving parts, one thing is certain – stuff’s gonna break. Just as in the real world, machines go kerplunk all the time, and your DnD Construct environment is no different. Let’s see what we can come up with when our players need a gearhead to call upon.
The dawn of The Forgotten Rails Hovertrain era is about to begin, and it’s sure to create a whole new pocket industry in and around Waterdeep. We’ll see part scavengers, mech thieves, gnome tinkerer builders, Construct repairs, and of course, reliable fix-it men (and ladies). Besides, Omin Dran loves new enterprises and cottage industries, so he’s all for the gusto (and new taxes).
We’ve printed a slew of STLs from EC3D Designs’ super duper Bolts & Brimstone Kickstarter, and we’re especially drawn to this Human Inventor miniature. He reminded us of that one family relative or buddy mechanic that we all seem to know one way or another.
Resident painter Kimmy Utah was the paint specialist here. We just adore her color choices as they really bring out that ye olde feel while still conveying he’s a gearhead by trade. The metal details mix with his blue garb in all the best ways. Love ’em!
Now that we’ve got our most excellent 3D-printed miniature, we needed an NPC and a store name to seal the deal. DM Ben dubbed the owner Gimble Cogsworth, and his musty repair shop is called Cogs & Kettle Customs. Just don’t ask him to spell anything for ya. 😉
And there’s nothing ol’ Gimble can’t fix. He was abandoned as a youngling and raised by a kindhearted gnome tinkerer family. He became obsessed with steampunk machinery and ultimately an expert, all while trying to make his foster family proud.
It wouldn’t surprise DM Ben if the players suddenly acquire any of the following and need a hush-hush mechanic:
And we have even more steampunk contraptions on the way!
Since he’s human, ol’ greasy Gimble can’t officially work on The Forgotten Rails Hovertrains. However, he’s certainly allowed to make a living and provide steampunk services to the general public. There are numerous hovering vehicles and gadgets popping up that are prone to malfunction and will ultimately require Mr. Cogsworth’s extensive expertise.
Until next time!
