Greetings, fellow tomb raiders! Let’s sift through the sands and find some buried treasure. First things first, though, let’s get you a ride…camels assemble!
Horses are a bit pricey, but a trusty camel is always there for you in the clutch. We’ve selected a couple of our initial favorite humpters so your 3D printer can get to work and ensure you have a lift in and hopefully, a lift out. 😉
Let’s start with EC3D Designs and their traveling camel. We’re always down with printing their miniatures because they have some nice heft to ’em and rarely need any supports. None of that frail nonsense that snaps in your hands as you take them off the plate. Besides, ain’t he adorable? Love the sculpt here! It’s from their marvelous Empire of the Scorching Sands Kickstarter.
Kimmy Utah was our camel colorist here, and we’re thrilled with how this loaded camel came out. This one was an early FDM test on our Prusa 3D Printer, and the layer lines are only visible on our zoomed-in photo. Using the Arm’s Length rule, this one just looks like he’s all packed up and ready to ride. We’re rather obsessed with caravans, so this 3D print is really going to shine on our game table.
Next up is another camel taking a breather (must be union). This DnD 3D print is from another must-own Egyptian set: Desert Adventures by Iain Lovecraft. His work is just so darn good, and again, he tends to lean towards the denser side for many of his STLs. This one printed in resin like a champ.
Kimmy Utah grabbed some paint pots for this one, too, and we adore this one. Our only “requirement” for her brilliant brush strokes is to always try and differentiate our miniatures. Doesn’t have to be dramatic, but we just like a lot of variety on the table. DM Ben plans to send his adventurers on a search mission through the open desert, so there will be plenty of stops to take a rest. This fella will look so good next to some tattered tents and a roaring campfire.
Lastly, we nabbed this free print by Devon Jones on Thingiverse. He has a whole series of traveling animals that can fit your adventurer’s mini. The dude is good, and he’s even made two different OpenForge Mounts sets. This camel is from set 2, but be sure and grab the first set too!
Kimmy Utah kept it simple on this lone rider, which is fine by us. She blended this one to perfection. Also, look how happy our monk is to get a breather and take a load off. We can’t wait to show you more of Devon Jones’ free STL animal mounts!
And don’t worry, adventurers! We absolutely have more camels to share with your 3D printer. These first three amazing creatures were just to get the sandstorm rolling. 😉
Until next time!
