Greetings, fellow holiday weekend gamers! We’re so stoked for this upcoming three-day break and think all our fellow hobbyists have earned it. Let’s begin!

That chaotic evil Scheduling Monster reared its ugly head in August, and our family-and-friends game couldn’t secure a game day date. Thankfully, a long Labor Day weekend is the perfect way to get our dice rolling again.

So, last we left off, our adventurers had finally reached the Night Hag’s cabin deep inside The High Forest. She’s been watching them the whole way through with a series of sneaky spy tactics and slowly whittled them down (without them even getting a Long Rest hit point and spell reset before this boss fight). Even worse, the players split the party, with half of them inside fighting the hag and her mimics and the rest of ’em outside battling more of her mimics.

As players rolled initiative, we also kicked off our home-brewed keys challenge. As we mentioned last time, we bought a set of small keychain charms on Temu for around $2. Then we tied different-colored strings of yarn to each key ring to distinguish keys one through five. DM Ben rolled a scatter die five times to randomly place the keys the Night Hag tossed in the air (since this is all just a humorous game to her).

DM Ben built out the expected outdoor encounters on top of our beloved Wyrmwood game table and then placed the larger cavern-crawl underneath it. The pic here isn’t the final layout, as we have to my move a few Dwarven Forge Terrain Trays around, but that’s a snap during the Saturday morning setup.
So, we’re hoping for a longer sesh this weekend, and there’s a chance the group might locate the secret door in the basement to her spooky underground lair.

Longtime 3DRPGers will know our Office Game plays on a longer, wider table, and our Home Game uses a smaller Wyrmwood play space. We’re playing the same campaign, but with two different groups of players, so DM Ben has waaaay less to worry about prep-wise. We originally built the Night Hag’s underground lair at work, but we had to revise some of that layout to get it all to fit on the home table.
For whatever reason, after DM Ben finally got it all set up underneath, he forgot to snap a pic before proceeding to the above-table encounters. Hence, we’ll have to save that revised setup for next time (and use the office pic above for reference).
DM Ben is super pleased with his prep here and gets a bit of a break for the next couple of sessions.

In our monthly Game Day preps, we like to show off a recently completed 3D print, so you have something new for slicing inspiration. So, we thought we would share this recent makeshift outdoor shelter by STL Miniatures. This scatter terrain piece is from their nifty Falconry Ladyhawke Set.

DM Ben colored this paint-friendly piece up, using all our core, go-to pots:
The miniature here is for scale, but this piece is basically 3 by 3 d20 squares. We also made a simple tarp using GSW Komodo Khaki, Dark Wash, and ASP Hardened Leather to represent outdoor gear, or you can add it to a 3D-printed wagon.
We hope you all have a wonderful, well-deserved holiday weekend. Be safe.
Until next time!
