Guys and Gals! This is it! The final enemy in our 3D-printed Dungeon Delve Wandering Monster Table! You can cut the tension with a knife. Let’s get to the big reveal!
You’ve probably noticed that we love to focus on the senses, including sight, sound, and smell. Tieing monsters to these feelings helps further immerse your players in the game. So, let’s introduce one last foe to bring it all home. Coincidentally, we started this dungeon delve table with one of ’em, and now we’re ending it with another (and another…and another)!
Our STL model comes from another fabulous free model maker—the talented mz4250. His Patreon is a pure delight, and we encourage everyone to follow him. We seem to download at least one super STL from him each week or two. He describes this monstrosity as “goopy,” which gave us a bit of a chuckle.
This bubbling blob is called “The Slithering Tracker” and was part of mz4250’s Monsters of the Multiverse STL series. We love it when resident painter Kimmy Utah can make the model look like it has a little movement. Can’t you feel its toxic sludge just dripping off its disgusting body?
Let’s discuss the encounter’s premise for our last dungeon-dwelling wandering monster. It just so happens that the room the players decided to rest their heads in has an unwelcome tenant above them. Oozes can be pretty stealthy, and the longer the watch is, the less sharp the person standing guard will be, right?
A watch is typically 2-8 hours, depending on how the players split it up. DM Ben will take the total resting time (say 8 hours) and require a CON save every two hours to test the guarding players’ alertness (DC 12). A failed save means the player gets disadvantage on the potential surprise round. Our Green Sludge will only attack on a failed save or near the end of the final watch if all the alertness saves are made.
This monster squeezes its way through the ceilings of the dungeon rooms and scouts the situation until it feels it has the perfect opportunity to attack. Then, this DnD monster strikes, hoping to catch its prey completely off guard and overwhelm him. You can imagine what would happen if a sleeping adventurer never wakes up in time, right?!
The very first entry in our table was a pack of Grey Oozes. This time, we want to end with a single ooze that morphs into smaller opponents each time “momma bear” takes damage. Hopefully, the party will adapt and resort to big damage hits, or this dungeon encounter will get out of hand quickly.
SRD made a cool Purple Slime monster that we tweaked slightly to fit our scenario:
Grab whatever miniatures you have to represent any spawning minions from the player’s direct hits.
Now, all that’s left to do is update our table for the last time!
