Oh, how we love our Terrain Tuesdays! That means more epic scatter terrain ideas for your beautifully prepared game table. Let’s dive in…
We’ve got the first section of a gorgeous Magic Goods Shelf by Cast n Play (from their epic Terrain Essentials Interiors II Kickstarter. Do the full late pledge, my friends. You shan’t be disappointed.
Now the natural follow-up question here is what is specifically on that irresistible shelf for purchase? Well, there are lots of nice reference material options here that will make your DM prep go a bit smoother.
Books! There are some handy hardcovers like “Remarkable Shops & Their Wares” or “Wanderer’s Guide to Enchanted Emporiums“. You can just flip through the pages and find the esteemed establishment scenario that best suits your party level and environment. Easy peasy.
Random Generators! Plenty of fun websites out there that will spit all sorts of suggestions to stock those store shelves. Why not give them a spin?
Here are a few of our favs:
Item Cards! We wrote a handy article on magic item cards the other week so here’s a nudge to read that masterpiece if you missed it. The technique is sound though – you initially place your item cards in a three-ring binder and when it’s time to stock the store, you simply pull them out of the binder and transfer them to individual card sleeves. It takes a little more prep time at the onset but then it makes future store prep sessions a breeze.
And the best part here is you can use all these magic store suggestions in any combination. If the DM knows a magic shop encounter is on the horizon, he can page through a book for the store’s characteristics and owner. And then pick out your item cards accordingly. If you need something in a pinch, you just pop open one of the online generators on your iPad and get a quick list of mundane, common, rare, etc items.
So let’s take the stress out of those colorful shops and instead, have some fun picking out all that magical goodness.
