While new Hovertrains continue to roll off the 3DRPG Studios production line, we thought we would switch gears and share a new Construct for The Forgotten Rails campaign — time for a little slice and dice!
Waterdeep’s Omin Dran is incredibly nervous about releasing Forgotten Rails’ Constructs into the general population. To quell citizens’ obvious concerns, he’s had these arcane robots covered in civilian clothing (almost in a comical, overdressed sorta way). 3DRPG loves Acquisitions Incorporated and its humor, so we try to lean into it whenever possible. 🙂
The Forgotten Rails founders (also known as 3M) are incredibly protective of their Hovertrain tech and trust no one (including each other). Hence, they’ve all created Construct bodyguards to decrease the likelihood of espionage or even assassination.
The wizard, Leeland Farce, built some well-armored, greatsword-swinging mechanicals that never leave his side. Not to be outdone, financier Cornelius Fritzwalter had the local gnome tinkerer create a slew of mighty mights and believes in strengths in numbers.
Now, that leaves our master engineer, Collis Strutt, to ensure he has ample protection from “the breathables.” As the mechanical brains of the partnership, he certainly couldn’t let his colleagues outdue him here.
DM Ben isn’t firm on his Construct bodyguard choice and could pivot (as he discovers new STLs), but he thinks we have a winner here. If he does change his mind on this miniature choice, he’ll spin today’s off as a future NPC.
Our Samurai miniature is by fan fav EC3D Designs and comes from their fantastic Ghost City Frontier campaign. DM Ben likes the idea of Strutt creating a single bodyguard because, after all, no one is better in the engineering space than him. He scoffs at the number of Constructs his partners are using and thinks they are overcompensating for poor engineering.
So, it would make perfect sense for him to create and build a single Construct that he feels no one could ever match.
Novice painter DM Ben picked up a brush and rummaged through his Army Painter Speedpaints to get this imposing sword slinger ready for our game table. There’s something about this particular pose that brings us so much joy.
In terms of colors, DM Ben felt a red cape would nicely contrast with the plethora of dim colors he selected. This STL has a lot of cool leather and darker fabric. He chose a black shirt, and he’s unsure about that particular tone choice. He could just be overthinking things here. For the hat, we once again used Citadel Skeletal Horde Contrast paint to get the same vibe as The Driver’s cool cape.
The greatsword had to come across as a perfectly forged master weapon, so a shiny steel blade looked especially good. Also, we chose a clear base and added a little Corederite rock for extra zest. We didn’t get a great photo angle on the head, but it’s colored that same powered-on, arcane blue.
This Construct will be known as “The Cutter,” and Waterdeep’s taverns are filled with fish stories about its fantastic fighting skills. We haven’t done official stats for the slew of mechanicals we’ve created for our beloved Hovertrain campaign setting quite yet, but this mysterious warrior is sure to possess multiple attacks with a big attack bonus.
Hovertrains are big business for the realm, and The Forgotten Rails founders have made a lot of enemies in a very short time. Consequently, 3M’s security is of the utmost importance, and they’ve taken matters into their own hands. These mechanical guardians should make for some great campaign storylines and encounters.
Until next time!
