In this week’s 3D Thursday installment, we’ve got a new, free download that definitely needs to join your mimic collection. Just tread carefully while reading…for our sake…
Once again, the mighty Schlossbauer graces us with one of his stupendous STLs free of charge. We downloaded this unsuspecting treasure chest on his Printables.com profile. We printed our tentacle-swarming friend in Resin on our ELEGOO Mars 4 without any trouble.
Regular readers will know 3DRPG has a soft spot for Mimics! We love collecting them and sneaking them into our game. So much so that our players get rather paranoid whenever they walk into a new encounter.
Our Night Hag’s bodyguards are all mimics and are currently wreaking havoc on our Work campaign’s adventurers. Things are going so poorly for them in the encounter above that we think it might even be a TPK when we pick it up again in our next sesh.
Resident Painter Kimmy Utah drew brushes on this meanie, and she sure got that bloodthirsty aspect across. This guy is hungry and wants your players to be the main course for its Thanksgiving dinner! We love how she interspersed some black lines on the tentacles to give this 3D print the vibe that they’re flailing all over the place!
This falsehood monstrosity is bound to get a lot of use by DM Ben for two reasons. First, our players are lazy and rarely check for traps, so he likes to teach them a lesson. Second, we love bad guys with multiple attacks. When you’re playing with 6+ players, they can potentially land 30 to 60 points of damage in a single round, and that’s without any additional spell effects. So, we want him to get in at least a couple of hits before he drops.
A mimic’s stats are pretty standard: AC 12, HP 58, +5 attack, 1d8+3 bludgeoning damage, Adhesive trait (DC 13 grapple). So what DM Ben can do here in a solo fight is move that HP to say 100-ish and then give it seven attacks (one for each tentacle)! You can even give the mouth itself a meaner attack (say +8 to hit and 3d8+3 damage). However, we like the idea that the tentacles feed its toothy mouth.
It even looks super cool from the back — a telltale sign of a great miniature! Do you collect mimic miniatures? Let us know on Facebook which type is your favorite!
DM Ben got his girlfriend the Galladoria Games collection for Christmas a few years ago, and we’ve been hooked on them ever since. Consider grabbing a set for your unsuspecting loved one this holiday season.
Until next time!
