With our first full DnD game environment paint guide in the books, it’s time to keep that brushstroke momentum going and move on to our next colorful tutorial by kicking off the first installment of our Dungeon Ruins Paint guide! Buckle up, buttercup!
Once again, we called upon the Terrain Gods, and they answered with this brilliant set by Milestone Heroes — Dungeon Ruins (set #9). There’s just something about mixing woody outdoor elements with stone-cold dungeon effects that gets our DnD juices flowing.
Another bonus of this grimy paint scheme is that we can also use it on beat-up buildings! That means we can use this particular color set for both interior and exterior 3D RPG prints. Gotta love all that dual-use goodness!
Every story has a hero, so let’s recognize the amazing work and inspiration of painting extraordinaire YouTube’s Zorpazorp. He published an exceptional video called the “Ultimate Stone Painting Guide.” In particular, his Dungeon Grime tutorial caught our eye and instilled confidence that maybe we can replicate his vision. We’ve watched his video so many times that we’ve lost count.
Now, can you just watch his video, do his steps, and call it a day? Absolutely! However, since many of us on the 3D RPG team (outside of resident pro painter Kimmy Utah) consider ourselves painting novices, we wanted to see if we could truly replicate his outstanding work here.
So, we want to pay homage, translate Zorpazorp’s superb scheme into written word steps, share photo in-progress photos, call out the specific paints, insert some of our personal touches, and generate a shopping list of everything you’ll need.
Remember, if someone like DM Ben can do these Dungeon Ruins paint steps, then anyone can!
Like before, let’s break out the individual steps that we’ll be demonstrating week to week.
Why not print out these files, pull something similar from your pile of shame, and paint along with us? We promise it will be stress-free and just darn fun.
Now, you’ll have two helping hand assets for this scheme — Zorpazorp’s video tutorial and our detailed steps to guide you through these rocky ruins.
Next week, we’ll try the first Dungeon Ruins paint step and share all the dirty details.
