Greetings, fellow wilderness wanderers. We’ve got another cluster of super nasty monsters to wreak havoc on your traveling players. Buckle up, buttercup, and let’s get to it!

What we love most about our delightful 3D-printing hobby is that there is always something new around the corner, thanks to a near-endless number of brilliant creators making the most amazing STLs for our gaming pleasure. Our two DnD campaigns are doing a ton of outdoor travel these days, so we’re utilizing this free d20 table rather frequently. Hence, we want to keep adding new monsters and NPCs so ol’ DM Ben always has a clean d20 roll. 🙂

And that leads us to today’s DnD blog post. Our Office Campaign is in the midst of traversing through an extremely dangerous route, known as Mushroom Alley. It’s so treacherous that even The Forgotten Rails won’t even attempt to pass through it. So, our adventurers have been tasked to pass through this mysterious stretch of fungal forest in order to find out what happened to The Fellowship of the Golden Mongoose, an Acquisitions Incorporated franchise that has gone dark.

We’ve already 3D-printed some pretty formidable mushroom foes, but DM Ben really wants to impress upon his players what a dangerous area on the map they’re traveling through. Hence, more alternate toadstool miniatures are a must for the DM. Enter the brilliance of Brite Minis and their must-subscribe monthly Patreon.
They released some new Myconids in April, and we couldn’t 3D print them fast enough! Let’s take a closer look and see how we got these to our beloved Wyrmwood game table.

We’re going to take a deeper dive into two slick Brite Minis and another mushroom-spore STL from Fantastic Plants & Rocks. DM Ben built up the courage to try some different novice paint schemes here, and we think you’ll dig ’em too.

There’s a progression to DM Ben’s encounter plans here, so we’re going to share these final TTRPG 3D prints in a specific order. We’re 99% sure these FDM-printed fungal clusters are from Fantastic Plants and Rocks, but we couldn’t pin down a specific link by press time. Their wicked good library of files is immense. Still, you’ll get the idea here. DM Ben wanted something that would basically spawn mushroom soldiers. So, he will sprinkle a few of these terrain elements into the gameboard near the front of Mushroom Alley.
Whenever one of these mushroom spores takes damage, all other Myconids within 1,320 feet (a quarter mile) will feel its pain.

Our next two STLs spawn from those terrain pieces. These upright, shuffling Myconid warriors are big hitters. DM Ben decided to grab a brush and see what he could do. He also wanted to try some new color combinations. We’ll sprinkle in the specific paint steps and conclude with our planned 5e monster stats as you scroll further.
Let’s start with some of the core colors:
From there, here are a few of the variations he tried out, starting with the Green top:
The key for DM Ben was just trying different colors and layering one on top of another til he liked what he saw.

Next up are these wild, multi-headed mushroom sprouts. Are they not just the most adorable (yet deadly) moving heads you’ve ever seen?
For the Red version, DM Ben tried:
Surprisingly, this was the toughest one because DM Ben couldn’t quite get the tone of red he wanted. So, he eventually got there. It just took a while. Patience is key.
And here’s the Yellow version:
For that small cluster of mushrooms on their backs, he used ASP Ruddy Fur with a soft-tone wash to dirty them up a bit.

Lastly, for the Purple version:
Pretty simple, right? And again, there’s no right way here. Just keep layering different shades of each color until you get your 3D-printed DnD miniature in its happy place. 😉

OK, so let’s talk DnD 5e stats for our new multi-headed Myconid and our upright Myconid Soldier.
For the soldiers, we tweaked this monster build we found online (the Myconid Sovereign): AC 13, HP 60, Multi-attack: +6 to hit/3d4+1 bludgeoning + 3d4 poison, Animating Spores (ensure you have a corpse mini in the scene), Hallucination Spores, Pacifying Spores, and Rappoort Spores.
For the multi-headed Myconids, we’re going to loosely follow this Myconid Scavenger DnD 5e online build by Conflux Creatures: everything will be per head, and there are seven on each mini. AC 13, HP 12, attack: +3/1d4 & push five feet, Scavenge Anima (Con DC 11), Shudderspore Rain, trigger (2d4 poison damage each time it’s hit). The players have to eliminate each head to kill this monster. Nasty stuff.
Now all that’s left to do is update our table and add another nifty on-decker for all your DnD monster needs.
